How about Canon 5D IV
Great video. I was surprised to see Sony come out ahead in so many categories. How do you both feel about the user interfaces?
How about the Sony colour science? Have they fixed it for skin tones?
I actually researched the A9 and the D850 before I went with the A9. It was no insult to the D850 – it’s a fantastic camera. What it came down to for me (in no particular order): EVF, 20 FPS, silent shooting & no blackout shooting. Another huge factor was something not-so-small humans don’t like about the Sony, but since I’m smaller I LOVE it – the ergonomics! I borrowed the D850 for a day and I could not feel comfortable with the button layout and trying to reach certain buttons quickly. I realize it was only a day, but I didn’t even borrow the A9 for any length of time yet it just felt natural in my smaller hands when I was reviewing it in the store and shooting a bit outside. The optics are so close between the 2 brands that to me, the ergonimics is important because I don’t find myself fumbling for controls when trying to take a crucial photo (I shoot mostly wildlife so fast enough action). I’m really excited for Nikon users because if their mirrorless has the same features I mentioned, folks will enjoy it for sure. I believe they’re game changers for wildlife shooting (ie. silent shooting! Imagine an animal close by and not hearing any clacking.) Sony does need to catch up on lenses, but those are coming. As Chelsea mentioned, checking the EVF is great to not only review what your shot will look like, but it’s fun for me while shooting wildlife, to see what shots I managed to get.
video quality was top notch today and nice bokeh. that top looks really good on you Chelsea. comparison seemed fair and realistic and i was glad this was not a sponsored video. thank you for sharing this with us!
Thank you both for that insightful information. I’m leaning more towards the Sony.
Hi guys…why do you reach for the Sony for night photography? Is it the EVF and a scene like a party? I ask because for astrophotography the D850 seems to be very popular for that situation. Thanks for all the videos.
Nikon vs Sony, filmed with a Canon 👌🏼
Chelsea was cute in this video. I own the A7r lll. But i also still have my Canon 5Dlll. and glass. And i started with a Nikon D80 that i learned almost everything with. And i still have. And when i switched to the Canon i was pissed at myself that i didn’t stick to Nikon because i was so used to the Nikon controls. And i agree with Chelsea that the placement of the front and back control wheels are great on the Nikon. So i never had the same love for my Canon. And even though i love my A7r lll it actually made me appreciate some of the things about the 5Dlll. And i still think its a really good camera. But i have to say. I am really looking forward to seeing the new Nikon mirrorless. Especially the 45mp model. But since i just invested in Sony it might be to late for Nikon to get me back. But I’m still rooting for Nikon and hoping they put out something great.
I love Chelsea… “Golf”???
10 years from now dsr’s are going to be dead. What mirror less lacks as of today is weather sealing, ragud look and a firm grip. I believe Nikon has a mirror less coming up next month. Once the race heats up we may be seeing some price drops. Sony lenses are expensive no doubt but we all are aware that the camera is the mechanical part of it , what brings about the clarity are the lenses. In fact many new photographs buy cheaper cameras and invest more on expensive lenses. Sony quality is always appreciated by Sony fans. My favorite pic Sony A9
You know the quality of this video is fantastic when you watch it in 360p and it still looks better than most other videos on YouTube.
Yes, Chelsea, you DO matter! Next time have two score cards; it will make clear that everyone has their own preferences even when owning both. Sony would have still had more “X’s” by Chelsea, but it would have been a narrower margin.
I don’t own a Nikon (well that’s not true, I own an N90 and N90s) so I’ll qualify by saying I don’t own a Nikon DSLR. In a way it did sound like Sony sponsored this vid (not both companies) but I’ve seen enough of your channel to know you’re telling it is as you see it and it’s not from being promoted one way or the other. Since the comparison was fair, that Sony kept getting “X’s” over Nikon’s flagship is something that Nikon and Canon should closely pay attention to. I agree with most of your assessments (see below). You guys are far more fair than the haters(?) give credit for.
I disagree with Tony! RE the battery thing: I have Sony and Canon. I don’t take a lot of pix, relatively speaking. I can go a month or two before recharging the batteries in my 5Ds, but with a caveat; I do have a battery grip and have two batteries in it. With the Sony cameras that’s just not the case. I always use a freshly charged battery every time. I’ve not done the troubleshooting, but it seems if the Sony camera goes to sleep and is inadvertently left on, I can look forward to a drained battery in days. I’d really have to do a test to confirm, but I have picked up the A7s thinking it had 70% or 80% charge left, then a couple days later it’s down to around 20% or 30%. So when Chelsea said she can go a couple days without a a charge, I agree (though it’s weeks or months for me). I would have easily given the check mark to the Nikon in this case.
Fun stuff. Been watching you guys for many years now.
I have a D850 & D500. Love them both and I can see the benefits of the Sony’s. Hard for me to switch tho. I love the feel of my DSLR and already have invested in the Nikon system. It works for me and while the Pro’s are vast to move, I will wait to see what Nikon Mirror less has to offer.
I don’t think you are missing anything it’s just change, just like Film to Digital but the difference is we have the internet where you’re opinions are given to you.
I’ve used both systems extensively on cruise ships, killing shutters every 3rd contract. Nikon is fast & easy to work with, Canons are right up there too but with more finesse & more forgiving. Nikons had better noise control at the time because we only used 2.8 lenses. Both systems are great if you know what you are doing & pair the right lens for the job.
I’d say pick up a camera, Use it & try to learn it keep up with the technology. Imagine if all cameras looked the same.
If you’re in this for money you pick the tools to get the job done, brands are irrelevant as long as you have the basic skills of shooting & editing.
Chelsea so wanted the Nikon to win 😂
Sony handling is much better with the GP-X1EM Grip Extension.
I think Nikon has fantastic image quality, I have an older p&s one from years ago (5MP) and the photos were fantastic (still today) but for overall package including video the Sony is better.
A7r iii 📷 cause its a cool kids camera jk Both are amazing and it really comes down to preferences
For me, affordability of lenses are more important than features because without it no matter how many feature you have, it’s pretty useless. I could buy two nikon lenses for one Sony GM lens. I am not pro so I don’t need GM’s quality super sharp lenses.
