Both are exceptional camera, but one of them is cheaper yet equally as good. It’s clear which one give more bang for the money.
Both cameras work out pretty close, I bought Nikon D850 over Sony A7r3 and never get me wrong because of magnesium alloy body like solid rock with XQD card slot
Love from India… 😍😍
I won’t be owning either camera, but the video is fun because I enjoy seeing folks who enjoy each other and work well together. Tony and Chelsea have a good marriage.
Sony mirrorless like the toy make from China, Nikon camera is quality of US
I’d go for the Nikon all the way. The D850 is the best DSLR to date,, and I shoot Canon (poor me)
It’s the Sony for me, I want the smaller body, electronic viewfinder and the USB charging. Only because I think it’d be better for travelling but ultimately I’d probably just go whichever one I could get the best deal on
Sony is definitely catching up. But i still prefer the nikon. Specifically for wildlife and action
Left to Sony about a month bought the A7 111 and love love it Sold my Nikon gear plus 2 Nikon 850a. Treated me well however Sony video just too good … I decide to become a hybrid shooter and Sony is the perfect fit
I like the way you two did this comparison. I like the way each of you voiced your reasons. I liked it when you agreed, and also when you disagreed. I even liked how you admitted into the discussion the emotional, the subjective, and that kind of squishier stuff…
You gave the “X” to what you felt “won”, but the counterpoint method really lets you know that an “x” in a column might come with caveats.
You guys rock…I love your show….
IBIS is a biggest fail in Sony. It’s completely fragile. Even a slight punch to the camera sends you to repair store and you can’t just turn this feature off.
Menus; Nikon wins.
Nikon wins this review by far just my thoughts
but how about Fuji :p
135mm 2.8 nikkor the afghan girl len’s would work like clock work with the 850
You guys left out a whole lot. Memory cards, dynamic range, color depth, native iso, top LCD, screen resolution, time lapse, focus bracketing, illumination, 8k time lapse, auto focus at f8, etc, but wait! The Sony with its USB charging is far more important and significant than those other features. So lets give it an X. Add the features that people really care about to the list and recount your x’s. Also. The eye focus of the Sony is not better. Look carefully at photos and you’ll see it has a tendency to focus on the white part of the eye and not the iris.
Really, Tony. Compare more significant features that people actually care about. Usb charging and wifi are not deal breakers.
Chelsea. Towards the end of the video you say, “what are we missing?” I’ll tell you what you’re missing. A whole lot. I would start with features that people actually care about and remove less important ones like the usb charging. You didn’t even talk about significant features like the memory cards. Sony no xqd and takes only 1 uhs-II? We can talk about roll over when slot one is full. How about the UI? There’s another significant part you guys left out. Some people do not like EVF either. Lag and limited dynamic range. Its really a matter of preference. I prefer an ovf because I find it easier to compose images. I wouldn’t shoot sports using an EVF either. You guys need to redo your list here…and yes I own both cameras. The Sony for video and the D850 for everything else. Just my two cents.
I’m a Canon guy but on this argument, Nikon all the way because DSLR 👌
Chelsea on Fleek.
Sorry guys, but I’ll pick my Canon 80D. My main problem with Sony is that you can’t build an affordable but good package with them. For Canon (for Nikon also) you can have a body below $1000 (even around $500) and a good set of lenses for less that $300 each. And I didn’t find cheap but good lens alternatives for Sony. And again, in budget region I prefer optical viewfinder ANYDAY. My Canon’s viewfinder is much better than the one of A6500 or similar. And easier to use to anticipate the action. Battery life, same thing. I agree in top tier Sony fixed their battery problems but not in APS-C cameras. I literally shot over 1000 images with my Canon 80D on a SINGLE battery last weekend, and it had ~30% left. Can’t do that on a budget mirrorless. And focusing at night, on the moon, with live view was super easy. Honestly, I don’t care if there is a mirror or not I just want a camera that sits well in hand, has enough lens selection, works well and doesn’t cost like a car 🙂
Canon 1dx mark ii is the best
