Just bought the D7200 with 18-140mm Kit the other day. I thought it would be a good investment for a long time and a camera which can be used even when I learn the basics for photography and will want to push for more. I love the timelapse shooting function. It’s my first DSLR and this video is the best I could find on how to use the focus modes on this model I own. Before that, I only could get acceptable shots on “P”,”A” and “Auto” modes, but never on “M”, which is the one what really expresses the vision of the shooter, in my opinion.

You share all the needed knowledge to begin with here, without being too confusing, just straight to the point. Thank you a lot for that!

Great video… I know I bought a great camera, but I am a little lost with so much and very complex camera features. – I still love my D7100 but I sincerely hope I don’t give up. Thank you

Michael I have watched your video 3-4 times and just could not follow you because I could not see the focus points you were seeing.I have a d7200.Well I was reading about focusing once again and came upon your video and met with the same snag.I then started to play with the camera and guess what I found what I WAS LOOKING FOR! THOSE AUTO FOCUS POINTS.Apparently the A M button on the lens was on M! Once I switch that to A I could see what you were seeing.BINGO now I can follow the tutorial as a novice.

hey i bought nikon d7100 18-140 lens and i pressed the auto focus button but it does not show AFC OR AFS in the viewfinder

Just upgraded from a Nikon D7000 to a D7200 and was not able to get just one focus point to come up on my screen. I think that it is the poor graphics on the camera screen; for instance the “S” looks like a “5”. I am soooo glad I found your video. I feel back in control again. MANY THANKS!
Question: does your Crash Course cover the effect of EV of the image and EV of the flash on the final image?

@MichaelTheMentor Just bought the D7100 two days ago maybe something wrong with my focus setting when i press the focus button for select the 20 or 51 focusing point the shutter doesn’t lock it came back to single focus point.

Hello! I’ve just purchased the D7200.
Your video is very useful for me, learning the ropes is so much easier now that I can focus my photos.
One thing I can’t really figure: how do I move the single focusing point in AFS S with my pad button? I’m pressing it but nothing happens. Another thing I noticed: when you move it, the color changes from black to red; mine doesn’t change color.
