correction: iPhone 12/13 mini’s footprint is much smaller than plus phones. In fact, it’s even smaller than the 4.7″ iPhones.
Their screens aren’t in the same aspect ratio, you don’t measure screen area with diagonal lengths.

I miss 3D Touch, it was really nice to have on my iPhone 7 and XS. It’s a shame that I no longer have it on my 13 Pro. The iPhone 7 was also great, really loved the Jet Black color they had, I’d been wanting wireless headphones for a little while at that point, wires were a bit inconvenient, so removing the headphone jack wasn’t as big of a deal. Same with removing the charge brick, I’d already gained my own chargers, whether it be portable batteries or just using something else.
I feel like 3D Touch is the only thing that Apple has removed that I still miss, and it’s not even that big of a deal to me.

Like you drastically understated the importance of the iPhone yeah smartphones would eventually be the norm although the iPhone was the first phone which was more than a phone like yeah there were blackberries where you could send emails and there was the chocolate where you had an MP3 player but the iPhone was the first one where you could literally go to a web page and interact with the internet you could go to YouTube and watch YouTube on there granted it would be an extremely horrible interface although back then they didn’t care about the interface as much because it was the fact that you had the ability to do it at all
