We need more attention for pcvr since we know that quest and standalone is taking over. Glad to see some companies doing more for pcvr users
I 90% play simulation games… This looks perfect
This is literally a milestone for a new VR era, actual historical date
hnnng it checks sooo many boxes for me. If we could get eye tracked foviated rendering on that thing, the face tracking and nofio could come later… This is a hard call for me, my life is getting chaotic so I’m gonna hold on for your full production review and if deckard swoops down from on high and takes us to VR paradise by q3.
It’s impressive and I like that there’s a new HMD that isn’t standalone. But it’s crazy expensive, lacks important things and I’d have to buy too much extra to be able to use it. Really nice with a custom cushion/IPD. So I’ll keep waiting…
Didn’t expect you to use watching all of One Punch Man with it as selling point, I have no problem spending 12 hours straight in VR.
Ok, so it actually has a mic… a good one. If it wasn’t so expensive and I had the rest gear I’d probably get it. Still using Oculus Rift and haven’t seen anything better yet.
Looks sick! I saw it is compatible with base station 1.0. If I can save up and get one I hope 1.0 performance isn’t a huge deal.
I would buy a non customized one for just pc vr play. If it was cheaper
The size of past VR headsets likely has to do with distance required between the lenses and the mobile-phone-sized screens of yesteryear. Now that display manufacturers are mass-producing postage stamp-sized MICRO DISPLAYS, this hardware is finding its way into VR headsets, changing that relationship and making devices considerably smaller.
Kudos for critical innovation of size should go to Samsung Display, or perhaps Sony Semiconductor Solutions, LG Display, etc.
so in less than a day i have 10 videos on my feed about this new VR ….. its like a horse race…..first to get it out in front wins….. guy…..are you no9t seeing that 3D print job? its suoer jagged and super cheesy? this is NOT a good headset at ALL……are you kidding me? look, i know you just want to create “content”.. but this shitty VR …
im sold
Not sure I can justify getting one of these, but I technically can afford it and have all of the other boxes checked. We’ll have to see what it’s like at launch. The biggest things I love about the Index’s headset is the field of view and audio. If the audio attachment is as good or at least close… I could see the other benefits outweighing a hit to the FoV. We shall see.
$1000 is outrageous for just the headset.
no shot they’re charging $1000 for that bro 💀just buy an index for that price. better quality and comes with controllers
Sadly, I don’t really see this headset taking off. At least not the way it is now.
It’s incredibly expensive despite not having a lot of the major components of most other headsets, like the processor and battery. It comes with no controllers, no eye tracking, no base stations, no passthrough, smaller FOV, etc. etc. It’s also hard to resell, and not shareable, and it’s $1,000? I just don’t see most people being willing to shell out that kind of money for a headset just because it’s comfortable, and has OLED display, and pancake lenses. The drawbacks are just too apparent and inconvenient for the price point. Especially when compared to other more popular headsets.
I’ve been into PCVR for a couple years now, and have thousands of hours in VR, and I personally would not buy this, nor can I imagine any of my friends buying it either.
I’m excited to see where the technology goes when it comes to more lightweight, comfortable headsets, but this ain’t it.
8:00 super important observations
GODAMN I think I’m in love, I have a Pico4 but couldn’t care less for standalone, or even eye tracking or so on, but the personalized, simple plug and play aspect of the IPD and prescription is just next level
Sadly the price of the headset and steam VR infrastructure is just prohibitive for me, I shall wait if it ever gets cheaper, till then the Pico shall do
It is so close to what I want (10+ MP bright color accurate oled that is base station tracked), but the lack of cameras kills it for me at that price point.
There are two reasons for needing the cameras. The first is for foveated rendering to increase performance or in other words allows for greater scene complexity. The second and more important reason to be able to get mask in real world objects, like Varjo does in your past video. Masking is important because it lets you use real world objects while otherwise in VR (keyboards, steering wheels, joysticks, audio equipment, desktop objects, food and drinks etc) . I have wished my vive had this feature in multiple situations while using it.
I would have minor privacy concerns with the face scan, but I understand why with the custom build just wish there was some way to make sure it wasn’t used for any other purpose.
Def getting it if only for Pr0n
Wired *and* requiring base stations? Yeah, even though I’m a PC VR gamer, that’s a hard pass for me; I might consider it if there were a device that came with it that allowed you to use it *wirelessly* , and a companion app you could install on your computer that let it communicate directly *with* the headset so you could draw your *own* boundary like you can with the Quest 2, considering that I get monthly deposits that’d give me enough money in about two months time, but since there’s *not* , I’m gonna have to pass on it.
