I like the likely symbolism behind addressing and referring to her parents in a way that implies shes not talking to her actual family. Other than it sounding cute and silly cuz shes a child, i like how it implies shes aware theyre not her actual parents and keeps that distance by despite referring to them as parents, not actually addressing them as parents. Dont know if i worded that well but i just appreciate subtle hints like this in writing and wanted to express that

Loid wanting Anya to call him otousama is probably because he want to pass her for a elite high class family. I dont know if this make sense in japan, but in my country there’s like some cliches on high class boy calling its parent in a super formal way, not mom, daddy, etc.

i’ve heard the terms 母上 and 父上 used in some anime and manga, is this used in real life or is it kind of archaic/anime talk? i think i’ve heard it mostly said by people talking to another person about the other person’s parents, but i have a feeling i’ve seen a character address and talk about their own parents in this way too.

I think her usage also fits her character because, as has been demonstrated, she’s kinda lazy when it comes to learning new things and tends to rely on her telepathy as a crutch to get by in most social situations. It makes sense that she’d fall back on “easier” words like chichi and haha because they’re two syllables (repeated syllables even!) as opposed to four.

As is very common for a child’s development at that age (obviously she’s not actually 6) she relies *mostly* on 1-2 syllable words since that’s all she can manage as demonstrated with how often she butchers longer words. The longer the word or name, the worse a job she does at echoing it.

I personally like to see it like this:
Anya put herself in third person since she calls herself by name instead of ‘I/me’.
She sees Loid and Yor as the people she plays family with. Hence ‘chichi’ and ‘haha’ are roles in a play e.g. ‘the father’ and ‘the mother’.
I hope I can convey what I meant clearly 🙂
