She calls them chichi and haha just like she addresses herself as Anya
She never says I or me she always says Anya so I figured it could be that reason that it’s just how the character likes to talk

This is good video explaining anya’s speech. I think the other reason anya talk like this ,based on manga ( spoiler i guess) because she’s foreigner and the language she speak is not her mother tongue.

If she is using chichi and haha incorrrectly to begin with, why couldn’t she be using it with the wronf distinction/Intention in mind?
I doubt (all of) those comments assumed that chichi and haha were the actual words for non-biological parents.

Which word would you use to translate “chichi” “haha”
I can’t think of any good English word that fits that quirky nuance.
Father, mother? Mmm doesn’t quite fit, it’s not cute. Chichi haha’s cuteness comes from Anya’s misuse of it, so I guess there’s no good alternative.
I’m not a manga reader so I don’t know how it will be later, but so far Mama Papa seems to work so far. That scene in the interview did get lost in translation a bit but didn’t seem that critical.
