this is interesting, I’d probably never learn a distinction like this without this kind of bizarre situation. thanks!
i think its pretty obvious that anya doesnt speak properly, since she grew up in a bad orphanage she hasnt learned how to properly speak and behave, plus, shes extremely young
I think her incorrect Japanese is a clue that she is younger than she’s convinced Loid
What should she have used instead of omae?
It’s cute so I don’t care. I plan on having my kids refer to me as chichi.
So where does 母親 and 父親 fit into all of this? I think I heard some royalty in one piece using these with their own parents a looooong time ago.
Hi Yuta, i love this kinds of contents! It’s interesting to know about the use of japanese in anime, and the hidden nuances that can’t be convey in translation, so thanks for all your efforts.
I also have a question: i read some time ago that お母さん and お父さん with the prefix お can sound a little “childish” for an adult, so they are more likely to say 母さん and 父さん. It’s true? Thanks for the response!
Oh wow, actual depth in an anime. Truly this is a golden Kama… heroic… age
I mean it miiiiiiiiiiiight be correct because they’re not ACTUALLY her parents…. But she really loves Yor and Loid so I do still agree with you that she should use different words
Thank you for the lesson. I have always been confused by the usage of chi chi and ha ha.
Excellent explanation. And great reminder that Anya is younger than 6 (she lied to Loid so he would adopt her) so that’s why she speaks incorrectly, just like any other child
Where do you watch the anime with Japanese subs?
Some day I’ll be mature enough not to chuckle at the phrase “other people’s moms” in every context
Lollll i had a dog named Chichi so when we found the translation all that time ago we started calling her father instead 😂
I got this, but then I remembered in Attack on Titan, in the first episode, Shadis says something that sounds like, “Moses no haha da,” to another Scout saying “it’s Moses’ mother”, but it doesn’t sound quite like “haha.” Idk if anyone can answer, but is he using another form of the word, like an older form that would have been used?
I wonder if it’s because she’s an orphan and feels detached in general, as though she has difficulty expressing emotion.. Was wonderin why she was usin “chi chi.” Good vid!
1:47 did you just put a your mom joke😂
Nobody:
Yuta: 母 your mom lol
