Now I understand why she failed at language but at the same time why tho
chichi and haha sound cuter. That’s all the reason they really need.
I watch a lot of Japanese movies and I notice actors cutting the o from okaasan and otousan, so it sounds like “kaasan” and “tousan”. Is this a thing?
That Kyubey plushie looks cute.
CMIIW as I do not speak Japanese nor do I have a good understanding of the Japanese language, but is it possible that it is because she always refers to herself in 3rd person? When referring to herself, doesn’t she often say “Anya” instead of any form of “I”? Could that be the reason?
ooo exposed
There really be people in the comments trying to correct a Japanese teachers Japanese… <-<
I haven’t watched it, but in the context of the show they aren’t necessarily speaking Japanese. I suspect it’s a Germanic language. The contention between Anya and other characters likely comes from the use of informal words. There is an issue, however, because the author is seemingly using Japanese to illustrate how telepathy affects Anya’s thoughts and speech. Anya’s lines would need to be restructured for a translation to represent what can easily be conveyed with 1 word in Japanese.
She was adopted by several other families before Loid so the other mother and fathers could have asked her to color that so it’d be correct?????? To her at least…
I think it also fits, because she kinda grew up in a lab, and is still young. Some of the context of relationships and language would just not be part of her experience yet. Plus, (and this might just be cuz i still sometimes do this) she seems to purposefully use wrong words/pronunciations on occasion, to be funny or cute. So there might even be some of that happening with her continuing to use haha/chichi.
Me: Your 母 is FAT!
Yuta: Don’t say that!
Me: wat
Yuta: 1:33
Me: Thanks, Yuta. Hey, your お母さん is FAT!
I think this is to portray that Anya is actually not a six year old lol, she is definitely four or five
your mother must be really funny for you to call her haha
Anya’s innocence is the only thing I can come up with
This is perfect! In fact, I think the reason why Anya calls Loid chichi and Yor haha is because, its the role they are playing, they are playing the role of “the father (chichi)” and “the mother (haha)”. I think the precise translation for her statements should probably look like:
“the mother, do you wanna hold hands?”
It would sound incorrect even to English audience, as it does in the original Japanese to Japanese audience. And I think the author is going intentionally for this feeling because as you said, when she finally accepts Loid and Yor as her father and mother (otousan and okaasan), it would be an emotionally impactful scene. Great video! 🙂
Lloyd asks her to call him that to create an emotional distance so she doesn’t grow attached. That way when the mission is over he could separate from her with it hurting too much
Learned some nuggets of knowledge regarding nihonggo, where we non speakers can very easily words we thought are correct not realizing we are using them improperly. But to my understanding Anya was adopted by Llyod should Anya address to him as Otosan, and Yor Okaasan?
Just enjoy the show?
4:20 maybe I’m younger than 6
I love this
