Lately I watch Historical anime and the son calling his mother “Haha-we” whereas to his father “Chichi-we”, why “We” was there? Was it traditional in the olden days of Japanese to put “We” in “Chichi/Haha”??

Another idea: maybe she doesn’t want to be so distant by calling him otousama but can’t use papa because that’s her biological father. Therefore chichi is a middle ground.

She is clearly heavily invested with her adoptive parents on an emotional level so perhaps she doesn’t want to be so distant without infringing on her biological parent’s title.

Japanese as a language seems just as difficult as English because English has some dumb rules and stuff just like Japanese .like the difference between horse and hoarse for example there two different words that mean different things. Whoever thought that was a good idea is a idiot lol.

Since Chichi and Haha can be used and understood correctly (as they have virtually the same meaning as otousan and okassan an can be perfectly understood if exchanged), wouldn’t it far more into the case of Chich and Haha being used to refer to your own parents gravitates more towards unusual than incorrect?

I had always rather assumed that the reason why Loyd wanted Anya to call him お父様 was simply because he was trying to present their family as an “upper crust” family for the purposes of getting accepted into the school, and he felt that would portray the proper level of formality for a young girl being raised in a very formal, high-class family, and thus reflect well on her in the eyes of the school administrators..

I think her incorrect Japanese might be referring to her being a child speaking a different language within the context of the series ( she & Lloyd are foreigners in the country they are in and she might not have mastered the language yet)
