I guess it makes sense that she would be used to these words, as she grew up an orphan and so never learned to speak TO her parents, only ABOUT them.
Idk, I like her speaking haha and chichi coz it’s Kawaiii😩😩
Thank you! This is great, and I’m glad I could learn something new.
yo when did Yuta become hot?
Ye they put incorrect japanese on shit cus it sounds cuter
I’ve heard people say in english “father” instead of dad and I always found it weird, thought father was a formal way of addressing your parent so I guess the feeling is the same
learning that she speaks incorrectly actually made her even more adorable
I did some research and I found that even kids in elementary school can speak relatively good informal Japanese (of course my bar for good is lower than that of Yuta) which reinforced some of my conclusions about Tanezaki-san’s portrayal of Anya. It’s often difficult for an adult to deliver a line without sounding like an adult due to obvious physiological differences, so you have two options: speak in a cute and verbally clumsy fashion or just try to make yourself sound younger while speaking normally. The English voice actor chose to do the latter and it sucks the comedy out of a lot of the scenes that I find amusing thanks to the way Tanezaki-san delivers her lines.
Thank you for providing these learning opportunities, it’s not always realistic to reflect on what a character has said when watching a show so it’s nice to have these educational breakdowns. Thank you for years of entertainment and education.
well chichi and haha is more cute than otousan and okaasan
So you decided to scrutinize a few lines in an anime?
Heh, I always get snickers from new Japanese acquaintances when I refer to my parents as tou-chan and kaa-chan. Guess it sounds weird from the mouth of a late 20s male. X)
Anya speaks always as third person 😉
But she’s cute, so it’s all daijoubumasu.
The way that non Japanese commenters are trying to correct a Japanese man point of view regarding his own language is interestingly weird…
I’m not Japanese but seeing this video with the characters make me realize something. The correct pronunciation of father is お父様 and mother is お母様 and that would be the correct way to address them, but since the beginning Anya says certain words wrong like a normal kid normally does with certain words, you just shorten them to make it easier to say and that was anya does, haha and chichi are very different from お父様 and お母様 just by sound I would never think they were connected, but in writing if you take the middle characters of each word you get chichi 父 and haha 母, so for me it’s simple Anya is a little kid and saying the whole word maybe hard so she just shorten them what leaves with chichi and haha, also it being Grammarly incorrect is just a cherry of top that the creators used to make the character a little more unique and quirky
She seems to speak “broken” japanese a lot, maybe she heard the words haha and chichi without being taught their meaning and wanted to use it for herself?
I think it’s because maybe Anya doesn’t really feel like they are family yet
0:21 then, anya is using the correct terms!!
i think the author is using the concept on purpose. as a telepath she tend to view everything from other ppl perspective or thought creating a permanent 3 person view that she uses to compensate her lack of knowledge so for her it will be normal to call them chichi or haha. not fully grasping the usage of 1st person o-tousan to 2/3rd person chichi (as seen from other ppl minds)
I love your videos so much what I learn from other videos in a month I learn from you in less than 1 week
