I guess they might have done it because it sounds cuter that way.
I’ve seen several anime where characters use chichi and haha when talking to their own parents. Shirayuki mizore from Rosario+Vampire for example.
Anya is simply too much of a chad.
hey anybody knows where can I watch this show with both subtitles english and japanese at the same time or it was just for the video?
i just attributed it to Anya being a child(most people seem to agree she’s probably 4) and it’s just her doing silly child things.
Another possible reason Anya is speaking incorrect grammar, could be that she had previously lived with 4 adoptive families, each likely having a household language that was different from the national language. This story takes place in a fictional version of Easy Germany, and the families she had previously lived with, had non-German family names. Add the fact that the orphanages didn’t have enough personnel, there was nobody like a parent or teacher to correct her grammatical errors.
They did it for cute purposes
Wow, thanks so much for this! I’m starting my own little manga collection and this series has recently been added in mine. I wouldn’t have known this! Thank you! Translations are always so off, and I love this because I want to understand their relationships, characters and story more. I feel like often times there are a lot of things I’m missing or not understanding because of the translation to English. Thank you! I need to learn japanese!!!
That’s specifically right but she’s just a kid i mean kids usually do lingual mistakes with words due to limited and their biased vocabulary which they personally like to speak. Maybe she just likes speaking chichi and haha
personally, i dont care, she can use whatever words she wants
LOL non-Japanese people are correcting your grammar.
How stupid do these people get?
This is very educational.
But in the sense, this is what makes Anya so cute!
Another is when Anya said, “Daijoubu-masu, Ganbarimasu” 🤣
chichi and haha is cuter ^^
I am still patiently waiting for a your mom joke.
this singular video has earnt a subscription and i will be back for more.
Interesting. I thought “Haha” is used to denote mothers that are funny.
MANGA SPOILER
but in the manga she scores better on the classical language exam than other exams, basically got it right but didn’t spell things correctly. which makes me believe that her native language is different than what is spoken in ostania.
hello kyubey
I think the one thing that would be helpful in explaining this is to explain the cultural context. In Japan you would speak humbly of yourself and highly of others.
In the context of speaking to non-family members, *your family are considered an extension of you,* that is why you use the “plain” words Chichi/Haha. It is deliberately *not* elevating your parents’ status because to a person outside your family, it sounds like you elevating your whole family and thus yourself.
When you speak to that family member directly, they are now separate from your sense of self, and they are senior to you, hense “Otousan/Okaasan” which is more polite due to the O- prefix and -san suffix.
However, when you are speaking to a person outside your family about _his or her_ mother, you again use “Otousan/Okaasan” because their parents are external to you, and they are an elder, so they deserve the respectful title “Otousan/Okaasan”.
I think understanding this cultural nuance makes it much easier to intuit which word to use. *_Basically always use the respectful term for an elder, except in the context where you are referring to a member of your family while talking to somebody outside of your family unit, because to the other speaker, by referring to your own family you’re basically referring to yourself, and you never use a respectful term to refer to yourself._*
Who cares. Hahaha. Its cute anyways
Honestly, I think they did it because “chichi” and “haha” sound unbearably adorable when she says it.
