This reminds me of Naruto. When his parents died, Sasori made two puppers resembling them, and he named then “Chichi” and “Haha”. I think it was a subtle hint from the author, that Sasori tried to make replacements for his parents, but never really bought into the idea that those are his real parents by only calling them in this way.

I mean it is fictional and technically they’re not japanese. So seeing them correct Anya on japanese terms would be weird. Plus she’s like under 7, kids say crazy stuff. If they fix it they should rewrite the whole thing getting rid of chichi and haha for those parts. Unless they want to explain that people in this anime canonically speak japanese amd japanese is the language of these countries. But that’s cool to know

What if you’re talking to someone about someone else’s mother ? Like if I talk to you about Anya’s mom, does that make it the same as a narrator “talking” to the reader in a novel and therefore the word “haha” is applicable or do you still use “okaasan” ?

Finally found an answer to my confusion after hearing Anya using Chichi and Haha for calling Loid and Yor.
But I actually love it! Even after learning about this. Eventhough it was actually wrong contextually, it actually gives unique familiarity on their character. Whenever I hear “Chichi”/ “Haha” I immediately think of Anya and the one whom she’s referring to.

didn’t watch the video yet but my prediction is that she didn’t know how to say chichi/haha incorrectly because of her poor education growing up + most of her life not having parents of her own so she didn’t know how to address them when she did have them

I assumed she’s a foreigner and Japanese is not her first language so this is one of the mistakes she’s making because she’s still learning. From whole story I also got the vibe that it’s not happening in Japan so the Japanese they are using is maybe trying to imitate foreign speech. It was my interpretation at least.
