First of all thank you for the explanation.

so, my knowledge of japanese is limited to something like 5 words and no subtlety at all and I will probably get this wrong but when you were explaining how to use chichi and haha (by the way thanks, I had been wondering about it for years but never found a good explanation. Finally a couple scenes from Naruto start to make sense), it came to mind that maybe she uses the terms to indicate possession. After all at this point she is quite desperate for a family. Having a word that means your own father or mother instead of a generic father/mother must be important to her.
Same with Becky. She wants a really close friend so she uses the word she might use for a really really close friend or even a sister.
maybe. please tell me if it makes sense.

Anya is implied to be from another country. In some chapters Anya says thinks in another language and she is pretty good at Classical Language (She still has a low grade because her spelling is terrible). So adding she lying about her age (She is 4-5 but said she was 6), she not having formal education (shady orphanages and returned 4 times) plus possibly being from another country would explain she can comunicate with just the basic of words. As far as I know as soon as a kid knows a word, they will use it regardless of context (takes longer to teach them different words are used in different context)

You said that you can only use ‘Chichi’ and ‘Haha’ when referring to your own parents.
By that, do you mean biological parents only? Or does it also apply to adoptive parents too?
