First things first… She’s just a friggin’ 5yr old. Second… Story was set in a fictional European country. Third… This is an anime. Its hilarious that a video and an explanation has to be done for this. I mispronounce words as a kid back then and also a repeat things I hear for the first time.
What you’re forgetting here is that the story was not set in Japan but in a fictional European country. If you look to it like this…
“Loid wants anya to call her dad(otou-san) but instead called him father(chichi)”
Then her calling him father(chichi) make sense in english. No deeper explanation. She just chose what she wants to call him. Its like telling your child to call you papa but went with dad instead.
A 5min vid over this?… Really?
Ha I knew it. I said exactly this and I was called out for saying it was wrong.
So basically I’d just say “haha” to make your mom jokes in Japanese 🤔
Thank you, Sensei👍🏻
As someone with a weaboos levels of an understanding of Japanese, I’m glad I clicked on this. I found it weird that Anya never calls Loid “Otosan” and Yor “Okasan.” But if the first 36 seconds of this video are anything to go by, Anya’s just being formal since they aren’t her biological parents.
Wouldn’t the idea that she grew up in and escaped from a laboratory affect the way she speaks? Even for her very short life. She was never exposed to anything that approaches normal.
What it is really lost in translation is the italian he speaks with his hands
Love all the insights! All the language nuances really make the characters come more alive.
Didnt expect to learn this much from 5mins video
maybe.. because anya (mostly) grown up at not good environment (the bad lab and bad orphanage), so her language’s take that bad shape. i don’t know what happen with past adoptions, though. also we don’t know (just from anime) her real age, since she faking her age to 6 so Loyd can take her (based he need)
The more you know….
i though chichi was just easier to say, it sounds like a papa
coz chichi and haha sounds cuter than otou-osama and oka-sama
actually maybe anya always talks in 3rd person that why she does that
Who fucking cares bro
What about Hahaue and Chichiue? I heard these a lot in historical anime and I’m sure kids used them when their parents were present and I think these are kind of similar to Chichi and Haha 🤔
ThEm SpEaKiNg JaPaNeSe DoEsNt MaKe SeNsE aT AlL SiNcE tHeYrE NoT JaPaNeSe.
what if anya only knows these two words😂😂😂😂
So, as an Aussie who calls everyone “mate”, would calling everyone “omae” be a reasonable facsimile if I wanted to say, “G’day mate!”
K’nichiwa omae!
🙂
aaaaaa anya haha ina kute samishiii
Haha exclusively means your mom. Haha.
