I grew up real poor. I only had a few cds cause that’s all we could afford. One of them was an Enya cd that was mine. I listened to it every night to go to sleep. I remember not really being able to understand what she was saying but I loved it regardless. It was like my warm milk to get to sleep. I cherished that cd for years and years until it was too scratched to play. I’d all but forgotten about Enya until I found a notebook in which I’d written about Enya sounding like rainbows and misty fog. I’m 17 now and listening to Enya again I am rushed back with all the peacefulness and sleepiness I had when I was younger.

I’m a human trafficking survivor raped by pedophiles since birth for 30 years. Now I am 39. One of the rapist pedophiles played Enya while he raped me when I was a child of about 12, and I was able to picture just from her beautiful voice and words, what it might be like to have a mother who loves you. I tried very hard to focus on this and hold it in my heart as he tortured me as my heart called out to Enya’s heart. I pretended really hard that she was my mommy and also had a loving mommy of her own, in “So I could find my way.”

I explained to him over and over that Enya is like a mother to me and that he is a monster, and eventually he got fed up and left me alone, saying I am too young and I need a Mommy, and that adult women used to talk about him and how great he is rather than talk about how great Enya is, and what a great mommy she must be, which I agreed, since I was a child.

He said he liked to rape people and pretend he’s having sex with Enya. I said he is a monster so she would never have sex with him. She will kill him. He got annoyed and stopped raping me. I wish I could remember his name so I could prosecute, but I don’t.

After he gave up on raping me, I then was able to check out Enya from the library and listen to her music without being tortured. I was still tortured by other pedophiles and this went on for decades but I was able to enjoy Enya without bloodshed and pain.

Now that I am no longer a slave, I can enjoy Enya and also not be tortured by anyone at all. Thanks to Enya, I found some love and joy in a very dark place and time.
