Very useful to know that kids start with non-keigo. Do they speak, for example, to grade one teachers that way?
“she uses incorrect Japanese because it’s cute”
“if you want to speak natural Japanese like this…”
*eyes narrow*
Thanks for the video. It was very instructive. I always learn a lot from these!
ahah the monogatari reference
Hey Yuta, can you do a video on Kotaro Lives Alone? There were a lot of jokes about how the main character speaks like an old-timey samurai, despite being in kindergarten.
It was only noticeable at more obvious times to a non-Japanese person like myself. I’m curious if you could point out some more nuanced examples.
At first I thought Anya was saying
だいじょうびます、like as though the dictionary form 普通形 was だいじょうぶ, and then to be polite she makes the endーぶ into ーびます。Thank you for this video; I love trying to pick up on all the weird things that come through in her speech and how a Japanese person would regard them, so this was very fun for me to watch.
I noticed Anya calling Loid 父 and Yor 母 but I just assume that because they aren’t her blood-related parent.
I love them monogatari references
英語字幕を見ながら特にもやもやしていた部分、誰か解説動画作ってくれないかなぁ~と思っていた部分をYutaさんがあらかたやってくれたのでなんだかすっきりしました(^^)~♬
Child referring to themselves by name instead of saying “I” isn’t a Japanese thing? I don’t think this is common in other countries… 🤔
2:09 “anya’s peni~, oh sorry i got tongue tied”
no way in the ducking hell will u lmfao
3:26 “look” in Spanish is “mira”
On my journey to learn japanese i wasn’t ready to have this good of a content 🥲
Thank you, sir
I’ve seen YouTubers try to use anime to teach because it’s “Fun”.
Hey, this was great! Glad I subbed ^^
I only started to read the manga yesterday and thought it was really cute, but since it was in English I didn’t know Anya talked that way. No wonder Twilight keeps looking at her looking a bit baffled. 最初から日本語で読み直さないとね
I know it’s done because it’s cute but hear me out.
Maybe she’s using Chichi and Haha since she’s talking to someone about her parents who really aren’t her parents (but she really wants them to be)
She’s talking to Loid who is pretending to be her dad. She’s not really talking to her actual dad. Maybe it’s more next level and subtle than we realize?
I doubt it though. I’ve no real knowledge of the subtleties of the language. It was just something that popped in my head when I heard her call him chichi in the last episode. I’m pretty sure it’s just done because it’s cute.
Bakemonogatari reference… Thank you!
Loved the araragi skit’s 😂
