maybe anya has only referred to her parents to other people and never talked to them directly, hence why she thinks this is how you’re supposed to call them all the time 😭
doki doki suru ne? woku woku suru ne?
Incorrect usage of words exists in most if not all languages
i told was waka waka ( this time for africa )
I recall, in terms of Nationality, Anya/Ania and Yor are both “East German”
-ish, while Twilight is from a “Nato-like” country.
But they’re NOT her real father and mother, so she’s totally correct. I think you’re missing the entire point.
A way to fix subtitles, for picture falling in english. Ohh something fail(miss pronunciation of fell)! The new hook we tested for the picture failed. It did fail…
and now imagine, english translations are missing so many things and ur native translator translate anime from english…
Does that mean Pac-Man is always excited.
So………….. If a girl want to be really really cute I will speak god awful and completely improper Japanese huh, got it.
It should be noted these are intentional since these lines are written and spoken by native Japanese speakers.
A lot of it isn’t truly lost in translation… it’s more so lost in bad translation. Official subs have generally just been badly translated sadly… with there being more officials subs than ever, there’s also more bad translations than ever. Fansubs can go a little too far the other way, but… official subs don’t even put in the effort.
Also, for this show… there’s also the fact that the characters don’t actually speak Japanese. It’s in a western-type setting. They likely speak English in actuality and they use Germanic letters. It is a bit of a blend at times since the west generally does not have omelette rice the way they do, but for most part it lines up.
2:07 that was an awesome reference
I honestly thought Anya refered to Loid and Yor as “chichi” and “haha” because she is fully aware they are a pretend family, thus using those terms the same way she would with dolls as she played along with them.
I speak Japanese and I didn’t realize this at all 😅 thank you this actually makes sense for her past
I knew Anya spoke improperly, but not being a Japanese speaker, I didn’t know all the nuances of it, thanks for the breakdown
The way she refers to her mom and dad kinda seems like a joke in its own right. They’re her fake parents so it’s almost like she is constantly referring to them in a way that is removed (like you would when you’re speaking to others).
Thank you so much for the informative video!! :0:0 It’s so well edited and scripted that the explanations are easy to understand
I know it kind of goes against the channel, but English literature takes many of the same liberties with language that I’m about to talk about for the same reason, so I think it could be good to point out. When Anya refers to Loid and Yor and Chichi and Haha, it could be a subtle nod to the degree of separation between them as a found[sic] fake family. I would be very interested if after a turning point in the Manga where their family unit becomes real if she changes her reference to them from Chichi and Haha to Otousan and Okasan.
So It means watching anime isn’t the funny and easy way to learn basic Japanese beside textbook, right?
Are there any similar methods? 🥺
