0:51 “Calling your own Father ‘chichi’ is incorrect.”
Yeah, I figured it was Anya-slang, since I’m sure the other commenters already pointed out that Anya’s speech patterns must be heavily influenced by the minds she reads.
Also, she’s an orphan, she’s been orphaned multiple times, so maybe it’s character writing that she feels this sense of separation she’s supposed to have with her “not really my family”, Loid is still “a father” instead of “her father”. Sure, she rationally wants the Forgers to be a family, but old habits die hard after all.
2:04 “nagasa hanmei shita”
Again, if I had to guess, this is character writing again. Maybe in some context of a researcher trying to test an Esper, she picked up the word “hanmei”. Similarly, like a specimen being measured, it might be reported as body length, not height. The latter though sounds really freaky if we take it as backstory – was Anya experimented on alongside animal/non-human subjects?
2:45 “sonzai koishii”
It does kinda sound like Anya wanted it to be super clear to Yor that Anya doesn’t “want her mom”, she “wishes she had a mom”. Anya for all the things she picks up from other people just doesn’t have a lot of subtlety to her speech and I guess they tried to make her sound incredibly blunt to Yor? That was the vibe I got from her speech but your explanation that she’s using really complicated words sounds like she really is picking stuff up from other people. But dang, what context would she have picked that one up?
3:53 “kaikondoke”
Honestly, especially with Episode 5, I wonder if Anya has some desire to milk Loid when she knows how much he needs her for this mission? Anya is commanding Loid to stock up on peanuts because he needs her to behave while he’s out on both a spy mission and then afterwards what is essentially a dinner party. Anya will be left alone (Scruffy Head is with Loid on the mission) so she’s bargaining with Loid that she wants to eat peanuts since he’s asking a lot from her to behave and stay home. Which is itself a progression from Episode 1, where she tried to leave the house to tail Loid.
5:15 “daijoubumasu”
Yeah, maybe she was trying too hard to sound polite. Anya’s speech during this part up to before the interview (where she must have read Loid’s mind in that they had to be sincere, not polite) sounded like she was trying really hard to fit the vague image of being upper-class, so she tried her best to use polite speech.
Overall the video has been really informative – I’m not saying that it’s missing context as much as I think, with this evidence, it could be interpreted as character writing. But it’s also great to know that her use of language is supposed to stick out.
For me Anya talk this way because she hate studying and she’s still a kid and learning…
Well of course it’s cute.
Thank You so much for the explanation! VERY HELPFUL
The godly Monogatari reference
That last one was so clever! I like understanding the hidden puns
I think some mistakes is intentional by the director to convey some message since Anya know very well his father is not really his father she knew it’s just an act so I think the director intentionally put haha instead of okaasan. or maybe not I’m not japanese 🤣
Its funny that japanese people go “haha” when they see their mom….
A topic on SpyXFamily, peppered with Bakemonogatari and Laputa references… 嬉しい!
is waku waku used only in certain areas i said it to my jp friend and she did not know the word existed
i think she knows advanced words because she can read minds and picks up words
4:12 Culture note; when we speak Malay in my culture, it’s polite to use our names instead of “I” or “me” especially towards those older than us 🙂
Im proud of my half-assed basic Japanese since I could tell (sometimes) when Anya was speaking in a wrongly manner.
lmao the line people looks like trash is golden
Yuta, Loid and Yor aren’t Anyas’ real parents. So, is using Haha and Chichi for her really incorrect?
The Monogatari reference 😂
The manga already show that she has a grammar problem so I think that the reason?😂
Cute huh? She was created in a lab by scientists. I am sure that the author also put this into consideration…
Hachiyuta :))
I think the reason she speaks in imperative ties back into growing up in a lab/orphanage, the people around her would be speaking through commands. Additionally, she can hear everyone’s thoughts, so she likely refers to herself the same way all the staff would be thinking about her “Anya does this”, “Anya needs to get better at that”. Same reason she uses overly complex words, children that pick up on those LOVE to keep using them, and her environment would definitely have “The presence/existence of a mother” and its effects on children be thought about by the people running the place.
これめっちゃ海外の方に伝えたいなぁと思ってたからこういう動画があるの凄く嬉しい、ありがとうございます
