I think is like how my children called us “Pa” and “Ma” after watching Little House on the Prairie from a young age. My parents are German and French and we had to call our parents by their correct terms, so they were appalled when they heard my children call us Ma and Pa. They said they didn’t mind they didn’t speak French or German, but they could at least call us Mother and Father or even Mom and Dad.

I assume that because Anya is foreign that she would address her adopted parents that way, but apparently this isn’t totally uncommon for kids in Japan to say.

That’s funny ^^, Kids emulate TV shows and cartoons here as well (both language and actions). For the most part it’s annoying and washes out regional dialects, but good thing this SpyxFamily mannerism is seen as cute.

Teens here are also using a lot of English in daily speak, because they’re so often online in English-speaking communities that they replace or easily forget certain local words.

Also a couple of things to take into account, as others mentioned.

Her upbringing is that of a test subject and a misfit orphan, so any way of addressing someone formaly is likely going to be lost on her, without proper teaching (obviously this is done for comedy and endearment). Even if we use the whole “their setting doesn’t take place in Japan” excuse, anime still uses terms to address people appropriately, even if they may not speak it in the legit sense. But we are talking about a young child here lol

This is taken out of context and does not deal with the real problem that exists here . Spy Family even more a series for adults than for children, It is a cuteness factor that is well known in anime where the target groups are adult that chuldren speak like this and the lower age rating exists only because nothing dangerous is there, which does not mean that it is suitable for children, because that is the misunderstanding problem with the age ratings of Anime , films and series around the World🐻
The parents are to blame if they do not check the series beforehand and just show it to their children without checking it.

How boring the change is such a small thing, it’ll be more interesting if kids went chuunibyou or started using a country accent, like how british kids started speaking with an American accent after watching American TV shows

Anya’s Japanese is a weird mix of formal words strewn together and used out of context or incorrectly… she sounds less like a kid, and more like a foreigner that learned Japanese by reading a list of formal Japanese words.
But that’s not because she’s a kid, that’s because she can read minds and learned things that way, plus the whole background context of being an orphan raised in a lab. 😛
The last episode was particularly good to see that, lots of focus on Anya… xD
Also, I can’t even imagine the hardships parents of the early Shin-chan years had to go through. 😛 The entire anime was basically a manual for the worst possible kid behavior.. xD It’s interesting how much it endured in Japan versus being banned and being source of controversy multiple times in other countries and cultures though.
For those who never watched it, Bart Simpson is basically a saint by comparison… xD

My personal theory as to why Anya uses chichi/haha is because she was always passed around from household to household and orphanage to orphanage, and only ever heard the words chichi/haha from others when referring to parents which is why she defaults to using those instead.
