How often should you replace your cycling shorts? I’ve been rocking my current pair for a few years now at least, but still going strong!
ok, one for the tall guys (so Si, Dan and Connor), I bought my first pair of bib shorts (size XL), fits ok in the thigh, seat and waist, but way too short in the torso and it was digging in both ends. So do you buy tailored shorts or are there some that manufacturers that have longer torso fit than others?
Definitely a must!
I love my new Castelli Competizione Limited Edition bib shorts!
1mm of extra pedding $100 more these companies are funny
She has really nice legs 🤔
Early days: No bib shorts and 300 KM stages! Heroes!!
Well, I will if you think I should. Seems a bit extravagant though – I haven’t even got a pushbike.
I wish women’s bib shorts had a bit longer legs, like men’s ones. Which is best Castelli women’s model at reasonable price?
I gotta say no to bib shorts. It’s been my experience that Anything on my shoulder like that adds stress to them. Why I don’t wear suspenders, overalls, and water backpacks. Plus my size is hard to fit. My shorts come up to chest and down to my knees. Or they cut into my belly. Occasionally the gods are good to me and a pair of shorts will fit perfectly. I’ll hang on to them till they’re threadbare. Y’all enjoy them shorts. I’ll pass.
I know it’s crass but Manon is hot!
A tensioned leather seat is plenty comfortable once it’s broken in, without the need for padded cycling shorts. I can ride a bike all day in ordinary tennis shorts or jeans with no discomfort at all. Also, there’s no need to apply any “special cream” to a new leather seat (assuming it’s good quality, e.g., Brooks) unless you live in a desert. The cream may help it break in faster (though leather will break in no matter what if you use it enough; there’s no avoiding it), but that also means it will help it wear out faster.
Too expensive, i rather ride without a saddle
I’ve moved to bib shorts and finally found a brand that fits my bum and legs (I’m a big guy) but the straps are too long. Anyone have any hacks to shorten the straps? I wish they were adjustable.
Much like a ‘beater’, not on your life would I be caught dead or riding in that get up. At my peak fitness I was 8% bodyfat and six pack abs, still wouldnt get me in either. 20 years later not as slim and trim you really dont want to see me in that thing. LOL!
I ride in sweats and a tshirt, hoodie if it is cooler. – Cheers
While it might be advantageous to get a nice pair of cycling shorts, finding the right saddle and having a proper bike fit is an even better investment. If you “need” a pair of padded short so go for a bike ride, think about why your uncomfortable.
thanks dear
i don’t wear them because they are skin fit and show off my fat xD
I’ve sat on my investments for years but I don’t think they’ve gained in value – on the long haul they’ve even dropped a few times. I’m still hoping they’ll bottom out, though.
I use suspenders when not using bib shorts, easier to take a leak
