As a thin rider, I have problems finding a bib with correct suspender length. I resorted to sewing in couple inches of fabric (taken from old bibs) to extend the suspenders on my Castelli bibs.
at 3:20 it looks like a GCN Romance!! lol
You don’t need to pay the earth, I have plenty of shorts that cost 20 pounds and they are fantastic, this feels more like a promotion video
can anyone recommend some inexpensive shorts? just getting into riding
Bib shorts are really worth it certainly for those who have a little bit of girth but unlike your poll, I think it is time the ‘market’ (we) told the brand manufacturers to drop those prices (Or went into good old Yorkshire mode and frightened the living daylights out of the cycling brands, by using in the really disgusted “How much?” routine). They would sell more however they expect us to buy at their inflated prices because of the tech that is thrown in!. Some of us cyclists have a budget and spending above £50 – £60 on pair is asking a bit much especially when you’re cycling to work and you have to purchase five pairs. Unfortunately some of us are not sponsored by Team Ineos etc where there thrown in for free!
I actually bought Castelli shorts earlier this week in preparation for a multi day ride with 9h in the saddle each day. My ass is thankful for this choice. I used to wear ‘top range’ of decathlon shorts so far but the chamois is incomparable betwwen them. Easily the best cycling purchase I’ve made
I used bib shorts for years, but I’ll never go back after switching to skinsuits. So much more comfortable.
I only wear bibs.
Bib shorts are absolutely worth it. It took me way to long to buy a pair, Ill wear them under my baggy shorts for MTB riding.
I don’t understand the bib part. Regular cycling shorts do exactly the same thing for me and it is MUCH easier to relieve yourself roadside should it be necessary. I have never had issues with them moving an inch.
Anything, even FULL LYCRA, to avoid the horrific agony of bruised bum bones 😫
So leather saddles and woollen shorts did the job since bikes were invented. Then saddles got harder and lighter so padded shorts were needed. Just go back to a leather saddle and made the saddle conform to the rider not the rider to the saddle – Brooks.
Pair of bib shorts, absolutely. Spend over £100, absolutely not!
I wouldn’t be without them, but I stick with shorts rather than bibs.
Wow, all the hating on Dan. I never knew him as a pro, but he was a pro, more than I could ever say.
For me personally less padding is more comfort. I recently purchased Ekoi bibshorts (they make padding for given rider’s weight) and being it only 4 mm it is super comfortable up to 5 hours (maybe more but that was my longest ride in them so far).
Manon, I am curious, what is the difference between the racing and training bib shorts in the GCN store (other then color/design)? Obviously the price, but I mean in terms of comfort?
I prefer regular cycling shorts without the bib straps. The straps on bib shorts irritate my nipples on long or sweaty rides, and it’s a pain to also take off my jersey if I need to pull down my shorts to do a number 2. If you do wear bib shorts, I recommend wearing them with a full length zipper jersey to make jersey taking-off and putting-back-on easier.
1001% Bibs are better. The comfort they give, no cutting in the waste and they never slide down. The chamois stays in place when you in and out of the saddle.
Bibs and no underwear, that’s the most pleasant feeling for hidden parts. Anyone who has never tried, you don’t know what you are missing.
