Whatever happened to just riding along having fun hitting features and trails deep inside ones comfort zone? Sometimes riding with my buds it’s all about more speed and bigger features. I miss riding when I was a kid and we were just riding for the fun of it with no pressure to perform. Actually, I just miss being a kid…
You need to “pay attention” about your thoughts and work on those to eliminate them. Just sit down, walk or ride your bike safely and pay attention. In your case, I believe your lesions are the more important, just let your body heals (no other way around) and gain self-confident and your mind will cease to talk to you like “I can’t jump” or “I can’t go on technical stuff”. Paying attention or awareness is basically better than meditation: The fact that you weren’t able to meditate because it was cold is the prove. Your body said: it’s cold, so your mind answer: stop and let go, however, why you didn’t wear a better jacket and continue? Hope this help.
Feeling the same way about biking since I fractured my elbow and separated my shoulder at Whistler two years ago
In recent years, riding mtb has been associated with air and bike parks, but mtb doesn’t need this to be an awesome experience. Compared to a gravel, for example, you can safely ride much more trails while losing minimal speed on easy paths. Also, I feel like many new rider go too fast in their progression because of bike park. You’re just presented with all those super dangerous features instantly, and YouTube is full of crazy feat. Realistically, people should take a lot of riding courses and practice a ton on smallish features before sending what you sent. It took me many years to ride such things. Also, when you’re not super young, you can still learn, but it takes much more time.
Stay on the bike, just quit the dangerous races.
I can recommend you to wear more protective gear. For example, a wrist injury could be prevented by wearing wrist braces. I personally often wear all possible protectors and this has saved me from a few injuries
I separated my shoulder and thought about not riding again until I realized the bike didn’t do it but something I did. I learned from it and got back out there! I love MTB ❤️ 😍
You can do it Yuka!
I’ve been riding cross country for years, to me mountain biking is all about the exercise with the fun of riding a bike. I love going downhill, but it’s always with care, you have to respect the bike. My father broke his arm going downhill, and I’ve had a concussion, in both cases it was a very silly fall which resulted in big consequences. Can’t imagine the sort of injuries we’d be getting if we did some of the downhill trails I see online.
After my concussion it took me a while to return to the bike, and many months went by of simply regaining confidence and strength. It’s very normal to take it easy on the first stages after a crash.
But in generak, take risks you are only comfortable taking, don’t be afraid to say no to dangerous features, and slowly regain confidence and skills after a fall. As someone else poined out, pure downhill (full of big jumps, and drops) and cross country (way more physical and safe) are completely different types of riding. And it’s the latter the one that will give you the most rewarding experience. It’s fun, you exercise a lot and you get the adrenaline rush without it being nuts.
Cycling should be fun, and when you are scared you are not having fun. It’s about enjoying the moment, connecting with nature, having fun with the people you ride with and like with any sport, enjoy the progress in skill and physical form. The “send it” mentality will only send you to the hospital
When going downhill, green and blue trails are the most fun, you can enjoy the experience and flow without the fear some black trails will give you. But again, to me downhill is only one part of the riding experience, uphill is the equally important.
Good luck in the recovery Yuka, I’m sure you’ll be back and appreciating the bike in a different, but safer and more rewarding way compared to before.
⭐Tone down, level of your rides, that’s all🇺🇸Yuka👍🌎I do my Crazy trails and practically no Jumps, but more Downhill as close to as i can get . . . rn- I built my own trails, mixed with distance for endurance 👍i know, you like to ride . . …both of ya❤️❤️
i switched my double suspensión bike for a xc bike, because i dont want to get a serious unjury in the future.
its not the same sport, but its more safe, and its very good for the body 😀
My opinion doesn’t really matter, but I’m going to give it anyway.
I’ve broken a lot of bones, somewhere in the vacinity of 20.
For me the bone breaks aren’t an issue, it’s the time spent healing and not being able to do what I enjoy during the healing process.
I can’t imagine not doing the hobbies I do, whether that hobby is my motorbike racing, fishing, dirtbikes or pushbikes.
Hobbies become a part of your personality and something to look forward to, what would you fill your time in with otherwise?
You said it yourself, you’ve been riding 8 yrs to get to where you are. A major crash will take you back. I don’t understand why people think they need to come back at the same or close to the level they were before.
As I say, you are not a true mountain biker unless you have had at least one trip to the emergency department!
Your vids are some of my favourite don’t stop see it though I have been watching u from the start and watching you progress!!!!!!
I haven’t even watched the full episode yet but did read the first1 few comments and I think it’s more about your riding for you from this point jforward and not for youtube. It’s about you having fun, being happy, and riding to ride again. IMO youraudiebceisnt watching you for your big rides, but rather because we just enjoy being part of your adventure. Keep riding, having fun, prove nothing to no one and I’m sure we’ll all sti.l want to be here for the ride
Yes, another comment 😊:
What Eric and you do, traveling to new places and trying to master all the features in one day or even two, that’s so different from being on my home trails, riding them over and over and improving to where I can (just about) send everything. I think also your video about the event, where you noted that your thinking was disturbed at the time, is telling. Generally, in a new spot, I’m just glad to be someplace new, but don’t try anything too risky if I only have one run or even two. It seems as a team and with your videos, you are more daring. Be safe, have fun! ☺️
Just ride mtb for casual recreational in mind. And shift to bicycle touring, exploring Japan by bicycle and make a video about it .
As Theodore Roosevelt once said, “courage is not having the strength to go on, it is when you don’t have the strength”. Perseverance will be rewarded!
Think the no fire was from summer ,,you put to much pressure on your self filming ,,,too much jumping more change get hurt ,,don;t need to do 30 big jumps ever other day …me winter put my skill back to day 1 and it take a month to start jumping again,,keep at it just go easy ,,jump now and then .peace
