Don’t think about that you have injury, i feel the same before but when i ignore my injury it’s like i feel the same before.
broke my forearms last year and still not recovered 100%, but i’m back to my favorite sport. come back stronger Yuka, God bless
I have crashed twice recently and I also contemplate if i should ride anymore.
I understand completely. I started XC MTB in 2018, and built my first enduro bike during the lockdowns. After COVID eased up, I started going out with my friends to DH trails while nobody else used them at the time, and I subsequently improved my skills vastly.
Then in February 2021, I smashed my face in an OTB crash and split both my upper and lower lips open. After 4 months of recovery (a lot of drooling in my sleep and small food falling out of my mouth), I returned to DH.
I was never the same. It IS mental trauma. My mind defaulted to caution and I could never descend steep trails at speed at all. The most speed I could do was if a descent didn’t make me feel like I’m being pulled forward. As of today, the most I enjoy out of my newly built 140mm travel hardtail (my enduro bike frame cracked after 2 more DH rides post-crash) is a local 4 minute fire road. One of my local bike parks is currently closed for trail maintenance and renovation.
Despite that, though, I built the hardtail because I decided that I still wanna do this. I’m going back to the basics and re-learning my skills. I’m gonna correct and polish my technique. I’m gonna stick with this hardtail until I can go back to enduro and DH without fear because I do actually like riding those trails, but I can’t push myself above my limits like I did before. Again, before the crash I did improve my skills vastly, but the experience and the hindsight wasn’t there. Therefore, I have to develop those as well.
Currently, I can clean 3-foot drops, but I can’t jump tables yet. That can wait.
This isn’t a message for Yuka, specifically. It’s for the people who watched the video, related to it, and have their own obstacles to clear. What I’m saying here is, you got it too. If you still like MTB, don’t give up. You just have to do it at your own pace and make sure you still enjoy it. They key here is enjoyment and willingness. It’s your happiness that’s essential, and you should pursue it.
After a broke my leg it took me a complete year before i could even walk but i went back in hard!! And im better rider now then before my balance has improved and my upper body strength is double due to walking on armpit style crutches
wonderful trip
maybe change to xc riding instead of flying down narly trails ?
i totally feel you, I had broken my shoulder by hitting the only patch of concrete slab of all the greens around and took me rest for 4 months. I still remember all the younger years that i’m riding bicycle and fall countless time on road, gravel, accident with cars, and still continued riding after sometime! Looking at friends riding photo is all the momentum I need to ride again! with wearing impact pads on my shoulder now! 😂
I had COVID this summer and, as an Asthmatic, still struggling to get my cardio back. I got in 20% less riding this year and most of the loss in the last 3 months. I also feel like a newbie.
So challenging to get back at it. Luckily I Fatbike year round, so transitioning to Fatbike only as Maine winters starts to set in. So, basically XC to get my cardio back slowly as my health and schedule allows.
I wish you the best!
YUKA YES, YES PLEASE CONTINUE!! WE LOVE YOU FROM CHILE!!! AS A MTB CHANNEL AS WELL HERE (TEACHING OTHERS) WE LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU AND YOUR VIDEOS FROM THIS PART OF THE WORLD!!
自分はこんな危ねえスポーツ絶対やめようと思いながら、結局続けてしまっていますね。
でも、自分の体が一番、絶対無茶しないってを心掛けて乗ってます。
I’d say maybe reduce some of the risk by eliminating/avoiding different types of tech. Lots of people mountain bike without doing jumps or big drops for example.
I’m of an age were it takes a lot longer to heal, and I find I still enjoy the climb and the nature (= “mindfulness”) so have moved more to my gravel bike (with a little bit of “underbiking” for the challenge) and biking camping. Just things I don’t feel comfortable doing anymore, that said sometimes it just clicks and I find the flow and just go with it. Just be good and have fun out there.
the older we get the less we bounch cycling has caused my right arm never to straighten after a broken elbow, collarbone, ribs etc I still ride but do not do air anymore and say no to highly technical trails, moderation is the key when i see a crash i can feel the pain from mine as ive done so many times…good luck
