It could be said that mtb is a form of meditation, after all, it can be classed as anything you enjoy doing. The fact you got back on your bike and back into nature is a massive win! Keep it up Yuka, best wishes. ✌🏻
I had a shocking wrist injury and am on my 9th cat life. I just do simple trails, no jumps etc. FInd a midlle ground that makes you happy, but there’s no need to risk jumps or gnarly trails.
Sick got back on the bike …take time heal ..keep ridding ..
If you’re crashing as often as you do you’re riding above your skill level, it was only a matter of time for an injury. Riding improvements should be incremental to minimize risk. Mountain biking is such a personal sport when it becomes about views and likes the focus isn’t what it should be. Focus on fun, consistency and repetition of improvement. Advice for all content creators that ride.
I broke my back, clavicle and three ribs doing a huge gap jump. I have set some permanent boundaries to stay safe. Don’t quite just except that your not 18 and major injury just isn’t worth it
I introduced my 14 years old son to mountain biking last summer and now he’s literally flying all around, going faster than me, taking big jumps and all that. As a rider who’s suffered many injuries, I often ask myself if I shouldn’t have introduced him to another sport instead… You’re video illustrates really well what makes mountain biking so unique.
Try gravel or roadbiking
You just need to get a better feel for speed and distance.
My suggestion:
A hockey puck!
A round object with some weight that when you come to a large jump and have nobody to tow you in, you roll it at the jump to gauge your speed.
I used to use a basketball for bmx jumps, but I think Newton’s 3rd law still applies.
Good luck with the confidence!
There comes a times when you have to weigh up whether it’s worth it or if you need a change. My time came when I was 30 years old. I raced motox from early teens without a major injury but in the first round of a new championship I fell off..broken ribs, broken pelvis, arm torn from my shoulder. I made a full recovery but for me it wasn’t worth the risk anymore. I still ride motorbikes and do lots of other out door sports but I’m not good with injuries and always leave room for error and am not as wild as I once was. Anyway thanks for the video it’s always a pleasure 😊❤
If you’re thinking about quitting, quit.
sending Yuka 💌🍀
Great video Yuka! Mental aspect after any crash is the hardest to overcome! Keep riding ! Tough as nails I feel sorry for any ghost that stumbles upon you in the wood😂🙏
Happy to see you back on the bike Yuka!! You are a strong woman. Keep going…..you will get there 🙏🤙
Just ride xc. Ego drives the rest xc is for love of bike and trees. I would not do it but that’s how you don’t get hurt. Statistically speaking.
You’re awesome Yuka🤙🏻
You are not broken. You have been through trauma and the memory is close so you have impact sickness. That feels scary. You need to build up more good memories to make the trauma a distant past. Try not to look back too much, only forward. Just take it slow, less risk and build incrementally. You’ll be fine. Maybe some cross training like weights or push ups to build upper body and arm strength. And walking is good exercise too. Merry Xmas!
Brand new to the channel, just got this in my recommended. Thanks for posting this and sharing your vulnerability with us. I had a moderate to severe concussion after a bike crash when I was 18. That was nearly a decade ago and I still don’t think I have my nerve 100% back. I can’t do anything beyond basic trail riding without a full-face helmet on; I am fiercely defensive of my brain health, despite any confused looks I might get. I ride with my mom actually, and we’ve been making plans to do some clinics this coming year as a way of trying to not only build our skills but gain a greater sense of confidence. Like you said, it is absolutely a mental game.
Ive never been a big air guy in my 33 years of mtb. Hasnt stopped me from having fun.
Way to come back Yuka. I had a similar layoff back in October 2021 due to long COVID. I couldn’t train for 15 weeks so I had to start all over. It took me 9 months to get back to where I was before. Struggled thru the racing season and wound up 11th in the points but I was much stronger at the end of the season so I had something to build on. Hang in there, you’ll be back in shape soon. I’m glad you decided to give MTB another try. The MTB world needs you. 😁
It’s the greatest sport in the world but you need to do it in a way that you don’t get hurt I’m 61 years old I still ride but I know my limits keep writing you’re awesome
