This hits on exactly what I have been feeling these last couple days. I work in the court and bike to the office. I am the only one; everyone else drives. In The Hague at the high court, the internationally court of justice, even the high-up prosecutors bike to work. It should be the case that those high in society bike to work and recreation. But unfortunately, once you have that high salary it’s expected on you to buy a nicer car

I actually got interested in biking because of Pacific Blue (TV Series 1996–2000). I didn’t do any trick riding, but I got a proper adult trail bike and spent all summer exploring the local (then somewhat sketchy) Erie Canal Bike Trail.

People who bike or use the bus in USA do it because they have no other choice. Thus they are lower on the social order and out of step with society. Thus it’s an issue of infrastructure. Make it so that biking is a viable option for getting around. Make it safe and affordable.

Pink Panther (2006) absolutely abhorred bikes for some reason. It was a running gag that some Rube Goldberg machine-like chain of events (e.g. when Steve Martin whacked a huge globe onto a Parisian street) would result in a peloton of cyclists piling up and crashing.
