While helpful this video also makes me painfully aware of why macro language/logic is something I miss from WoW. Like, in WoW, with one macro I could tell Heart of Corundrum to go to A) my mouseover if I have one, B) my focus target if friendly, C) myself if not focused, and it would substitute for just the action itself with no measurable delay.
the sprint macro is a lifesaver for me
example:
if you want to get out of a mechanic and you just double weaved, the sprint macro guarantee that it activates and the normal one you have to spam it and it will be delayed
I went like getting a macro with the command not only for raise but also for the role action sleep to let people know to not use AoE’s yet to wake up the monsters while the tank recovers after it died.
I think the Raise macro text is not only for RP reasons, it makes it easier for the other healer to know that person is already taken care of.
So a question, because I’m very bad at macros, and I wasn’t sure if this counted as one of the “don’ts”. Would a macro connecting the GNB skills No Mercy (damage buff) and Double Down (attack) be a bad idea? They both have the same cool down of one minute, and I never use one without the other. I figure doing this would save me a little bit of double weaving, but if there’s a problem with this I’m not seeing I’d love some feedback on it from anyone who’s a little more knowledgeable. Thank you!!
Is my dragoon macro where i shove with jump mirage dive stardiver wyrmwind thrust and geirskogul into one button degenerate or not?
Something I find useful for group combat is a Party effects macro. I lag like crazy during hunts or alliance raids.
You can change your settings on the fly with 2 macros ( more if you want options)
/battleeffect party off <<< My setting while praying not to crash during a hunt train. lol /battleeffect other off /battleeffect me simple /petsize all small
There is one macro that I started to use to remind me when a skill with 2 min cool down is available:
/macroicon “Arcane circle”
/merror off
/ac “Arcane Circle”
/echo Arcane Circle 60 sec
/echo
/echo
/echo
My sprout brain doesn’t understand what has RP have to do with the macros. I guess you could for example dance and activate an ability at the same time for flare?
Rez macros are perfectly fine. Swiftcast Rez macros will never be slow enough to actually effect gameplay unless you’re a try hard fflogs shill, and no-one likes those.
Pretty sure i do the biggest of all combat taboos which is putting most if not all tank cooldowns on one button.
(with the exception of invulns) it seems to do them in order (one cd per press) unless the first one comes off cooldown then it does that.
I know this won’t cut it for savage and ultimates but i don’t do that stuff but if i did i’d probably annoy a lot of players xD
I put spirits within with fast blade too. I put Requiescat with holy spirit freeing up a button for holy circle.
As a controller player i tend to stick to 16 buttons for combat jobs anything more is simply beyond me. lol
(My other bars 2 are for GG macro, mounts, laugh/happy emotes, sad/mad emotes and LB)
Fun fact: /merror and /micon stands for “Macro Error” and “Macro Icon”. Also, you need to put quotes on anything with a space in the name. Single-word actions do not need quotes 🙂
I needed this badly for healing. I just picked up Sage and the idea of click-targeting party members to cast terrifies me. This will fix things up for me very nicely.
Ahhhh! Extract Materia!
3:20 you also can turn this off in the Character Configuration under Chatlog, Server Error Messages, no need to waste a line in the macro^^
9:55 I like to use Macros on Sage so I can shield the Tank and Toxicon the enemy back to back
11:06 Auto-Translate works for macros aswell so you don't need Quotation Marks and you can use your Macros on All Clients for example: on a german client /ac "shirk" <2> does nothing but shirk written in auto-translate will work!
13:05 I miss the Old Sprint: 20sec duration on 30sec cool down.. and 1k TP cost but now we don't have TP anymore
What i do for the Rez macro, is that i dont macro swift-cast, but i ‘do’ put the Party message into a macro that also casts the Raise. Its not so much for RP Purposes, but to let any other healers know that “hey, ive already started rezing X”, as a way to try to avoid double-rezes.
just install the pmouseoveractions plugin and boom, suddenly macros work like they should in a modern game. easy
I don’t know why YouTube brought me to you, but I am going to throw this in.
I don’t think you know exactly how GCD’s work, or your idea is only partly right as to the functionality of GCD’s and OGCD’s. So I am going to just say this right here and now.
You have over analyzed this game. This video I feel makes gameplay more difficult then functional. There is a common practice that majority of players have that you I can observe don’t follow. Revive Macros are a DO not a don’t due to the functionality of healer’s informing other healers or back-up healers about whom they are reviving. And why I say back-up healers? Because classes like Summoner can revive people, and Red Mage can revive through VerRaise at level 64.
Healer’s use revive macros so that nobody is wasting their swiftcast abilities, and the other has it available for whom ever is needed to be revived if more then one person is down.
Having a macro that spams Shrik and or Sprint, is a waste. Why do you need to spam those? Playing the game in general you don’t really need to spam Sprint due to the fact that in dungeons and Raids you get to mobs in a decent time without spamming Sprint. “Having a problem with your sprint?” No, I use it when and if I need it.
As for Shrik, you never want to macro Shrik as an Off Tank. As someone who plays tank, if I need to use Shrik it’s me throwing it on an Off Tank due to mechanics. Plus as an Off Tank, the only ability I would want to use at all would be Provoke incase I need to pull a boss off of the Main Tank, or if the Main Tank dies. Having a macro that spams certain abilities is never a good idea.
If you want to macro certain tank abilities to target certain party members, that is a choice, but most of the time it’s better to just mouse over and use an ability anyway. Or better yet, using keys like F2 through F8, due to keys F1 through F8 targets everyone within your party. If you’re in a light party, use F1-F4, if you’re in a full party, F1-F8.
This video over analyzes basic fundamentals about the game with GCD’s and Macros. The gtoff command I don’t see why you would want to have a macro like that with any ground base abilities, and once again I see you have the screen filled with the same command line spamming your ability. Once again, over analyzing, and over complicating basic game mechanics.
Why are you dressed up as a girl
Rather than spamming an /ac, just add a parameter after the first cast. Change the 2 to any number of seconds, like 1.5 or whatever, to account for the first skill’s potential tick delay, cast time, and cast animation.
Example:
/merror off
/ac “Swiftcast”
/ac “Raise”
/p Get up, buttercup, we need you in battle!
/micon “Swiftcast”
