Nice camera (minus a tiltable, fully articulating back, and the price is ridiculously way, way, way too high!
Does the Pentax K-3 III feature on-sensor phase AF or will live-view still use contrast AF only? That’s a deal-breaker for me.
Dear Joseph, keep buying people, we buy products.
We don’t use people to make pictures, we use cameras and lenses!
What you are saying is like telling a cyclist that he should buy a motorcycle, or telling a sailor that he should drop the sails and buy a speedboat.
We love photography for the art of making good pictures. What do you need 20 fps for? To Clutter your hard drive? If you are taking portraits, how much does the facial expression change in 1/10 of a second? Personally, I shoot at 3fps to get what, may be, is a slightly different facial expression. It’s the same when I photograph wildlife. If you are hunting a deer, you don’t shoot at it with a gun machine!.
Pentax offers what photographers need: affordable price for the best cameras for making photos and with the widest lens system available in the world. Think lenses are for the photographer like brushes are for the painter, like chisels are for the sculptor and, with Pentax you can choose from Carl Zeiss M42 manual lenses of the 30th to the newest AF ones, all are Pentax compatible. Pentax is a camera that is the fastest, the easiest to set up when shooting conditions change, there is no need to navigate deeply into a menu to change settings, all settings are at your fingertips.
Technologically, Pentax is not behind Canonikons in what it’s needed to get beautiful images: pixel resolution and dynamic range.
OK, I could keep writing about why we are “people who buy a product” and not “people who buy people”, but it’s enough. I have already written much more than what I wanted.
Now I am very much looking forward to see your video criticizing Carl Zeiss for continuing to make manual focus lenses.

D500 has 1.6 million iso
HI! I’m a big fan of Pentax, but unfortunately you are absolutely right, I think! I don’t know what “Mother” Ricoh thinks about their philosophy (??), but if Pentax still do that, they will not live much longer …
Lol nicely said. I might include coffee sips in my videos.
I notice that many Pentaxians have not noticed that old Takumar and Pentax-K and M lenses work better on a DSLM of any brand than on a Pentax DSLR. On a Pentax DSLR, multi-field metering does not work and exposure metering is only possible in a cumbersome and often inaccurate way via stop down metering (with green button). So the much advertised backwards compatibility is only limited. I wish Pentax would build a real DSLM and not a crippled one like the K-01 back then. I sold my pentax DSLRs a long time ago and currently enjoy my old Pentax lenses on a Lumix S5 and GX9. For me a DSLM is the better choice as i mostly shoot black and white and now i can see the subject in the viewfinder in monochrome when i shoot. I find that great. I think there will always be lovers of DSLRs and the fixed monitor on the K-3lll doesn’t bother either, because Pentax users are mostly classic photographers and not filmers. The announced price for the K3lll seems too high, let’s wait until we see real prices in shops.
The EVF is really a trend that the market told us that is the best of all, and without it, you are doomed, you are using a camera from the past, you are no longer capable to take pictures anymore… So, no one wants to stay behind…
Anyway, this moves are so common, in every industry, creating trends and convince the fools that they need. Does anyone remember the initial and main reason for mirrorless? Size. Well, if crop medium format is true, full frame was just a lie. In fcat the lenses are even bigger.l
Some new features are evolution, some are revolution, but some are just the need to boost the market, nothing else. EVF has their stenghs, and can be useful in some scenarios, and I have it in some of my cameras, but why people think that using a OVF is from the past. A EVF always remembers me a video camera, and who thinks that looking at a screen inside a hole is the future… something is wrong.
As far as the specs it seems that you are comparing them with full frame mirrorless, forgetting that it is apsc (sony only does 11FPS on their apsc). Another thing is even if you compare it to say canon r5 which also does 12fps….well until the battery drops to 70% then it only does 8fps and the AF goes to hell….. nevermind bad example. :’). I might buy it to replace my K3 (which this is worlds above) and waiting to upgrade my K1 with the k1 m3 once it comes out. I also do have a pentax mirrorless camera that uses all my lenses 😉
18:24 Yes, yes, he is very happy 😂😂😂
A Pentax APS-C for $1999 with no tilt LCD with 800 clicks battery life with a single SD card slot with good old Pentax AF? Heck no! 🙂
People underestimate how useful it can be to not have to have your camera switched on to see through the viewfinder.
I have a K5 II and a K3. They have been the most intuitive cameras to learn I have ever had and I’ve been shooting for a couple of decades.
For a DSLR seems very solid. Looks like is more photo oriented machine. Feels like a good old DSLR when video wasn’t a thing yet. They are selling pentaprism to New photographer that don’t know about them. Is a joke. I kind of feel bad for pentax
If you don’t like Pentax just come out and say it. I couldn’t watch all of your video it is so bad. I would not take any photography advice from you. Lose the snarky commentary. I just wasted 18 minutes of my life.
I WILL SAY WE ARE TIRED WITH MIRROR LESS, PROBLEM IN MY EYES
ISO 1.6 million is just advertising hype. If it was a usable ISO, Canon, Nikon, and Sony would have it too which in a way, they do as extended range. But usable, no. Electronic circuits are very noisy with that much gain.
Thanks for a much more open-minded first look a the specs of the upcoming K-3 III than it will likely get by many other YouTubers. I happen to be a Pentaxian since 2009, and I totally dig the new crop flagship as a no-BS yet exciting photographic tool. I learned photography on SLRs, and I’m grateful for them to be brave enough to stay their course. This is going to be a camera that will allow me to take absolutely gorgeous photos with maybe not all of the latest bells and whistles, but frankly with a piece of equipment that has a lot more soul than so much other stuff out there and that offers a user experience and imaging power that is second to none in its format.
200bucks less including a CFExpressCard and a movable display… I guess it would have sold like hotcake, but as it came out now…
I am with you, when you say the pricetag is a bit steep and that it is for hardcore pentaxians.
So for me there is no way around it, so I will buy it sooner or later since I am convinced that a large and bright viewfinder(along with a lot of other very valuable improvements) can compensate a lot of nonsense
and the 12fps have been a wise decision…
I am totally with everybody who says you’ll never need 8k video, but lets be honest…
6K Video and higher framerates plus a serious LOG function … that would not have been rocket science to implement …
and a flagship should bring flagship features… Nonetheless, since the AF finally seems to be somehow on par with todays standards,
One has to admit: OVERALL this camera is a hit, and if I have to decide between a D500 and the K-3III I’ll go for the K-3III,
since its advantages(and the fact that i have a lot of glass and can also use all my m42 SMC Takumar glass without loosing focus to infinity just with a ring adapter) weigh out what RICOHs R&D seemed to have missed.
I really feel it is a good thing they kicked out the GPS-clown that corrupted the chassis on K-1 and KP
and finally made a durable FULL/whole chassis again…
(and despite i feel there is at least one top dial too much, i have no understanding why they had to invest money in a touch screen…
instead of satisfying all those calls for a movable display from their customers. what for ? redundancy circus to the power of three. gosh…
next camera will add a macbook pro touchbar to the touchscreen, the multiwhatever and to all the buttons and possibilities already there? )
I share your pain. PENTAX, what a waste of energy. PENTAX, don’t lie, at least not to yourself. I would never, in 2021, buy a DLSR, much less crapped [crop], and anyone that does will be lying to themselves like PENTAX’s directors do. It feels like PENTAX consider us fools.
