In today’s VLOG, we look at the Ricoh Pentax K-3 Mark III DSLR Camera 📸 specs, promotional ad spot, and an official announcement to try to understand why Ricoh is NOT moving to mirrorless now or in the future.

We breakdown the specs to determine if the Pentax K-3 Mark III will be an iteration or innovation from its predecessor the K-3 Mark II.

UPD: Pentax is unlikely to survive in camera world. But it’s their own fault not being innovative and not offering something awesome. They got this like chunky medium format 645Z with 51mpx, but there are cheaper, better and more compact options with similar amount of mpx from every company, in FF tho. No new costumer will get the “entry level” K-70, coz obviously company doesn’t plan for the future. So this release will find its way into the hands of a few hipsters and that’s it.
Pentax needs a way better business plan, or just save the money and distribute ‘em between other departments.

For that price and timeframe I’d rather get the a7iv whenever that comes out. I just hope the gr4 comes out before Ricoh goes under. I love the gr3, but it could use a refresh if it’s going to be the last ricoh ever.

This camera is a pile of bullshit: the whole “see what your lenses sees” thing is crap – you take your picture with an digital sensor at the end. So seeing what you picture actually will look like is the way bigger advantage. Next, who should buy this thing? My father has a Pentax, and it makes good pictures. He will not change brands because he use Pentax all his life. But he will not buy this camera – there is nothing in this which justifies $1900(!!!). If you don’t have a camera at all you will not buy this, if you a pro you will not buy this. And even if you a long time Pentax user you will probably not buy it. I’m pretty sure this is the last Pentax camera we will ever see.

PS: The only feature someone like my dad would be interests in is probably the face detect. Now the question there is: how good is it? Like Sony? Or more like Nikon? Even worse? Pentax is not known for feeling very quick and responsive.

lol. Welcome to the world of Pentax Ricoh!! 🙂 Us Pentaxians have been living with this for years! But here’s the secret…. Pentax cameras are still the best… by miles! (unless you want video, or mega fast, multi point AF. But hey, nobody’s perfect!)
Seriously… they’re a few years behind… but Iwe still love the IQ.

Honestly, I am a bit surprised that Pentax is still around, and kudos to them for choosing to stay with the DSLR model. While I am currently a Fuji shooter, my first camera was my father’s old Spotmatic as a kid in the late 70s, later picking up a K-1000 in the early 80s. I even played with a buddy’s 645 later in the decade, though I was a full-on Canon shooter by the mid-80s. I have to admit that the fact that they are still around and pumping out cameras is positive, I have no desire to see any camera maker go under, even if I am not a user of their products.

Hmmm I see perfectly what I have to capture with my mirror less digital camera.On both Fujifilms and Leica OVF works just fine.Also have zero blackout.

I love Pentax started many years ago with them !! But sorry they have dropped the ball and are years behind, Ricoh is not doing a good job with them, maybe the fat lady is getting ready to sing, very sad.Sold my K-1 went to Nikon z series and must say Nikon is getting their act together in the mirrorless arena !!

Hi, you forgot about Pentax’s legendary rugedness and weather sealing. Also the stellar and amazing limited lenses, which are on par with Leica and Zeiss glass. Pentax is the only camera manufacturer which covers you from APS-C to medium format. Just my 2 cents.

The most advanced feature is the high ISO which you describe as BS.
How many cameras had 1.6 million ISO in 2016? Don’t underestimate the benefits of this feature. It really means improved image quality at low ISO. You can use ISO of 400 instead of 100 which means faster shutter speeds and sharper images especially with long focal length lenses.

I use the Pentax digital medium format system. I love it, the glass for the system is fantastic. I chose the system over the Fujifilm GFX because of the optical viewfinder. 90% of what I shoot with it I shoot with Profoto and I dont like using strobes with an EVF.

It is good to have a choice. Phase One, for example, is too expensive for an enthusiastic amateur such as myself, but that and the Hasselblad H are the alternative option as far as an OVF goes.

I for one hope that Pentax stick to their guns, in medium format at least.

Lol you are spot on! The video is so bad I had to stop watching it! It is brutally bad! Companies should stop placing a dumb ass C.E.O. or a sales rep to unveil new equipment! They should use one of their sponsored (they all call it different) photographers. Watching this video is like watching today a Buck Rogers in 25th Century video with paper planes bad special effects lol!
