I don’t understand the constant comparison and reference to the D500? THIS IS A D7200 UPGRADE, nothing to do with the D500. the ONLY MISSES I see as a downgrade from its predecessor is the lack of 2 card slots and the lack of Ai – AiS compatibility.
my 7 year old d7000 got dual sd’s and ais, wtf is nikon thinking?
Sony a9 😦 fanboys unite!!!!
The D7500 was announced a few days before my birthday. The announcement prompted me to buy another D7200. It helped that there was a double cashback.
A real slap in the face. After years of failing to replace the D300S and instead adding some features to the prosumer cameras, they release the pro body in the D500 and decide advanced amateurs can go to hell. Buy the pro body or here you can have this neutered piece of garbage….we’ve taken out features just for you. Well I can’t afford to pay for a pro body.
You didn’t mention the drop in resolution. It’s a small drop but it does matter any time you’re going to crop or fine details are really important (group photos and landscapes, birding, even fine details on those sports pics). The entry level DSLRs have more resolution than the prosumer and pro range. How crazy is that? If you’re shooting more than just sports and action it matters.
Ken, I think you’ve gotten yourself rather confused over the 7500 and are failing to see the forest through the trees. The 7500 is simply a D500 with some key pro features removed with a whopping 40% discount — very much like the D90 was a feature-reduced D300s. The difference here is that nothing even close to the D90 existed when it was released, whereas today we already have the 71/7200, 55/5600, and 33/3400 as well as the D500 in the 20-24 Mpx category. Hate to say it, but you have fallen prey to the confusion that Nikon has created by getting bogged down in the details.
The only criticism I would offer is that Nikon has wasted their efforts in providing yet another competitor to itself in the 20-24 Mpx arena. Period.
Yeah, I heard much negative comment on the D7500 mainly because of the single card slot. Personally having used the D5500, single slot doesn’t really bother me. I never used one with double slot, so I wouldn’t know the adv. What the D7500 appeals to me, it’s lighter than the D7200 (120g diff, not sure how significant that is…) and it’s slightly smaller, seems less bulky to care around than the D7200, and it’s definitely a step up from my D5500.
Great now I can buy myself a d7200 for dirt cheap. I was waiting for this camera to come out to compare it to my d500. Not even close.
its going to drop to $699
they said you cant used old lenses , most of my lenses is old , so hell no if you gave it to me I would sell it
Just raised the price of my d7k $100.
Doesn’t even matter if I sell it, at this point… if I do, not sure if I will go with D500 or wait for the a7iii…
They should have called it the D500c. c=crappy, c=cheapo, c=crippled
REPLY
Gotta keep saving for the d500, not particularly happy
If it wasn’t for the ai ring I would consider this camera for the low light performance
What do you guys think is it worth it to upgrade from D5300 to D7200?
Lets not forget no battery grip provision, bad move Nikon.
sir I am from in India plse help me How is the Best D7200 or D7500 or D500
What about the Fuji xt20 compared to this one?
I am so disappointed with Nikon and other camera companies. It seems as though they will give you some but not all that you really want. I give you this but remember when you used to have that? Aaaaaaaaaaahhhh…..
I think most people are going to care about the faster AF and the 4K video and tilting screen rather than the AI indexing and dual card slots of the D7100 / D7200. It’s more a competition between an new D7500 and a used D500, IMHO.
And if Nikon is actually waiting until the exact MONTH of their 100th anniversary before releasing their killer D850 instead of releasing it now and still calling it their 100th Anniversary camera, then… well… I guess they deserve whatever financial struggles they have been experiencing. I am pretty sure they would sell more units if they released it NOW as those tax refund checks start rolling in instead of waiting two more months.
But hey, it’s Nikon.
I think they left room for a D7400.
