This camera was all about a middle ground cost wise between the 7200 and the 500. It had very little to do with a technological advancement. I’m sure there are a lot of people who didn’t want to spring for a 500 but can justify the $1250 for this but not the $2000 for the d500…. all about a niche price point.

The issue is perhaps more about the marketing of the thing. If it was not called D7xxx, and was a ‘new’ line that offered the best aspects of the D500 at a lower price it would be better received. The fact the 7xxx series hadn’t received an update in a long while suggests Nikon wasn’t sure about what to do with it. You can still mount AI lens I believe, you’ll just have to use them in M mode.

Ken, I don’t agree with you on many point but on this one, you are absolutely right! If I am serious photographer for sport and wildlife, I rather spent little more money and purchase D500, rather than cannibalized product like D7500. Just checked the price for refurbish D500 and they go for $1600.00, used one goes for $1500.00 so why I should I purchase D7500. For me its a non starter.

I think Nikon is in trouble. I would load up on Fuji gear instead, and get rid of Nikon before its not too late and you get peanuts for your dollar.

Why don’t you ever mention the D7000? It is a really good camera. I have a D700 and D700, of course the D700 is better but the D7000 is really good too.

You talk a lot of sense. I was thinking of upgrading to a D500 or D810 or holding out for the next full frame with 4k but im going to keep my D3300 as my crop and Ive just bought a D750 which is sooo cheap right now for the low light stuff. Seems like a good combo. We shall see.

D7500 is coming to the UK at £1299 BODY ONLY… What a joke… Glad I have the D500 waiting on the next full frame…. saving hard, but may well get D810 as price is coming down.
