Happy Ney Year, and thank you for the info Kobie.
..zdrowia… zdrowia.. i jeszcze raz zdrowia ! 🙂
Thanks for this. I tried it by having a face on my laptop screen with full auto and it was focusing on the eyes almost every time. Very impressed! You’re a legend for all this work you do Kobie!
I’ve read a few times that pentax composition adjust can be used to give a similar effect to a tilt shift lens. Do you know how true this is and is it something you’d maybe like to cover in one of your videos? 🙂
Thanks kindly Kobie! xx You are too lovely!
Yeh, this was always an interesting one, where do you start lol…
“Let’s introduce Eye AF!…” (*mutters quietly under breath) “only under x, y and z conditions”). 🤣
Ahh Pentax 🥰
This is one of those things where lots of AF points can really help for Eye AF. For Fuji, 119 or 400+ AF points across the sensor really does help with the accuracy, but even Funji are still a bit sucky with the success rate. Their latest cameras (XH2/XT5) I think are pulling the wool over a lot of users ‘eyes’ (hehe). What seems improved the most is the live feedback on the screen of the TRACKING system, showing/recognising the eyes etc, boosting user confidence. HOWEVER… when actually committing to the shots (even with their newer better AF lenses) it looks like its not quite keeping up to the impressions you’re giving on the back of the camera, with many shots soft and clearly out of focus. I think my XT4 would actually have similar keeper rates.
Eye AF is a huge can of worms, implementation is important, togging it on and off easily, choosing the eye, and of course it actually working. Canon and Sony I think have high trust rates, unsure of Nikon, Panasonic and the rest. I get by ok but its not ideal with Fuji. For Pentax I think despite this feature being available… just put your own damn AF point over the eye… we have a joystick now after all and I think the success rate will be higher than adhering to the qualifying configs.
Thanks for all your hardwork! 2023! Lets gooo!
Good work, Kobie!
This is the channel I go to learn how to use my Pentax cameras. 😆 Thanks for exploring and explaining all these features.
So you are saying if I use SATOBI that I won’t get this eye detect???
I’ve loved and used Pentax gear professionally for over 35 years, and Kobie, I appreciate how hard you have worked to help us get the most out of our stuff! Having said that, the Pentax gear I have now (K-1 and K-3iii plus a lot of glass) is used only for some product, macro, and landscape work. For portraits, lifestyle, and any other work with people, it’s Sony all the way. I know Pentax is trying, but they are many years and iterations away from developing their autofocus and subject/eye recognition systems to approach anything close to what brands like Sony are doing right now. With Sony, I select the autofocus parameters I want and just fire away. I never (ever) even think about the autofocus missing shots. Yes, I am a Pentaxian and will always be a fanboy (especially re: the K-1), so this is strictly business.
Thanks Kobie for all the good videos, and best wishes for 2023. I am missing the subtitles in this recent video. And this makes it more difficult for me to understand. Is it possible to repair this?
Thanks Kobie & happy 2023!!!
Thanks Kobe! Another gem !👍👍
I also remember reading about setting the image tone to auto to get the camera to recognize a person. Still don’t have a K-3III, but I’ll eventually get around to it.
Thanks for messing around with the camera settings so that we don’t have to mess with them too much ourselves. 😁
