The ‘panoramic’ film is the same film. The camera just masks off the top and bottom of the frame in panorama mode. Really just a totally useless feature. I think this ‘feature’ first came out on the PZ20, but I could be mistaken. I know the Z-1p had it as I own one of them, but I never used the ‘feature’ it in 5 years of active shooting with this body.
The Z series were plastic bodies and frames so they did not take the hard bangs that you would expect from a Pentax. The spotmatics will last forever – a solid metal frame.
The K1 vs K3 debate is they each have their own place. Very much like the 35mm vs the medium format debate of the film era.
Thanks for the relaxed talk. What is the next camera? It will be the one I buy when my current one stops doing the job for me. My MX still have a place in my shooting.
Lee
What about a rebadged Tamron 150′-600 to take advantage of the K3-3 for wildlife and action photography. The Pentax 150- 450 is a expensive and capable lens but is still a little short for wildlife and action photography
The Pentax ZX5n was the last film camera I bought. It was a great camera. The Neoprene straps are kick ass when it comes to comfort. Side note here, I also have one of those extra long Minolta camera straps.
I suspect you had a few more than that 1 corona, they are my first choice to unwind as well- I was wondering your thoughts on the 150- 450 zoom, just bought the K1 MII and would like something to improve the sharpness over the Tamron 70-300 I have been using- I like the images out of the Tamron but just feel they could be better
The 15mm Limited was one of my favourite lenses. Sold mine when I bought a K-1 ii, but a large proportion of my shots on my K-5 ii and KP were taken on the 15, so I must have loved it.
If I recall, I used a threaded filter on front and mounted my 100 filter system on that. I got optimistic once and slapped two threaded filters on the lens and the 100 holder on that, but the vignette got fairly strong.
I too am looking forward to the D FA 21mm Ltd WR…this will fill a big gap in Pentax’s lens lineup. But when? Tough times to be bringing out new products I guess. Maybe they should do a Kickstarter.
The k5iis had a kind of magic too, very underrated camers with a great sensor.
I don’t have the K-1 yet and now that you’re saying its 3D pop is that good, I’ll try to get one soon. I can get the 3D pop in apsc, but its lens specific, plus you’ve got to know how to get it – half the time its a fluke. The way you set up a shot is important, and with certain scenes it just can’t be done. Flat water is hard to get the 3D pop, if not impossible, but I have seen it pulled off tonight on flickr (That bloody DA*300mm can). I would love to make a video about this to show people how I do it. You’ve got to really research a lens and look at flickr for that elusive 3D pop as most people don’t know how to get it, they just fluke it most of the time. I’m able to get it with the DA 12-24mm f4, but you have to have the right scene. Its harder with wide angle lens. DA* 16-50, 50-135mm has it, I think all the DA* lenses have except I don’t know about the new 11-18mm 2.8. There isn’t much out there in the flickr pools because they jammed it all into one pool so its hard to see how the 11-18mm does.
But geez, this dude pulled it off right here on flat water, something I thought was impossible. Its that lens ya lucky duck, you’ve got one!

Hej Lee ! thanks for the video. Can you recommend some “Budget”-FF lenses for the K-1 ? Thx from Sweden and keep going on with your great videos !!!
What you’re saying, Lee is exactly what Pentaxians already know and have known for some years.
