The gopro video looked better than the k3iii. I keep the gopro hero 7 in my K1 kit for video and time lapses in the field. I made a hero 7 vlog kit with a ulanzi case, mic adapter, and a little saramonic mic….actually works quite well and is light and small. Takes up very little space in my bag.
Some listen to win instead of doing what is healthy which is listening to learn.
I’ve been thinking of making a holder that attaches to the tripod. I tried to take a shot with the tripod very low to the ground and it was difficult.
Ed I liked the 20mm at 1080P jus fine !
Hey Ed, not sure if you know, but the chord from the mic goes into those slots that you tighten into the hot shoe to stop it from sagging or bouncing.
Love your videos on Pentax 🙂
Seems to me the go pro footage was fine, maybe better than the K3. The K3 also looked great. I’m sure glad you’re doing all of this testing. Much appreciated for what I can learn from your efforts.
Thanks Ed I appreciate all you have shared over the years…
Haha, I just got locked out my own thread on PF this morning. Shared my last YT video and now I’m locked out. Great huh! If someone watches my video from that thread and wants to ask me a question in that thread good luck me responding! Honestly I shake my head at them…
How come I can be an admin of a few Pentax FB groups and a large contributor on others and there’s NO ISSUES. This… on Facebook of all places, the master head quarters of toxicity! … but man!…. they have nothing on Pentax Forums 😆🤣
Ed, what did you film the beginning of this video on? It looks awful compared to your previous videos. Is this iPhone?
EDIT: Let’s be honest, this K3mk3 video looks awful compared to your Fuji videos. Super soft and you were not even correctly in focus. Seemed like the camera back focused. This is inferior to the output of your XS10/XT4, fact.
Aapaka vlog bahut aacha hw🥰🥰
Hi Ed, I will be interested in your journey with the K-3 III and 4K video. Back when I had the K-3 original I ended up purchasing a Panasonic G9 and Leica 12-60 lens for my professional business 4K talking head and vlog videos. I still have the G9, and it has been fine for my purposes. I haven’t had time to play around with my K-3 III for video yet, so thank you for running some tests. I will watch with interest as to where you land with this.
Not sure if it’s user error or editing, but both videos look bad, especially the GoPro footage (way too contrasty and nasty artifacts). On the K3 iii, it missed focus every time from what I see. You’ll need to figure that out. IMO, forget the 4k for video. Just film in 1080p (save on time and space), stick it on a 4k timeline and upload your video in 4k (your images will still look decent).
Ed
My go to wide angle lens is a Rokinon 14mm 2.8 I used it for astrophotography and shot the Redwoods in Northern California with it. I use my 20mm lens for low light as it is a 1.8 lens
Hey Ed. Thanks for the plug and you’re absolutely right about forums. I do participate in them but many times I can tell what’ll happen if I post/comment so I just don’t lol. I posted my findings on the deep learning for the K-3 III and oh man. Even though Pentax’s wording specifically stated that it affects AF and scene recognition, people were adamant that it had nothing to do with AF. Or, “I use it without those settings and it works fine, so I don’t know what he’s talking about” etc. I’ve relegated myself to basically sharing some pictures here and there but I’m always on the FB groups. Like you mentioned, on the YouTube channel, it’s the best way to reach out. I reply to the emails, comments etc and actively replicate what the issue is that someone is having so I can help them… Anyway, about the video. It seemed really soft. When I used to shoot video with my K-3 and Sigma 17-70, it would look like that most times, it seemed to be slight miss focus. One of these days I’ll head out with the intent of video with the K-3 III and 16-50 PLM in AF.C and see how it goes. With the 55-300 PLM it was actually pretty good due to background blur, but I’m curious how it’ll do with the 16-50 PLM outdoors actually doing video in a “live” environment.
There’s something weird going on with the footage from GoPro, Drone, K-3. Looks like compression artifacts anytime there is movement in the video. Noticed in the last few videos as well. Is anyone else seeing these? I would suggest that getting that sorted out first, then dial in the K-3iii and see what it’s limits are and aren’t.
You are nearly there ED
GoPro was more pixelated but then more pleasant to look at, even if it sounds silly. Dunno if it is codec or something wrong with processing or something else but it looks like Pentax still sucks at video. I suppose they never really cared about it and just added it cause sensor and processing supports it out of the box.
I will not go into forums, they are a mess. Still less mess then FB and you get everything in one place, unlike YT so there is some value in forums too 😛
After doing some research on what’s going on, I think it’s a Davinci Resolve/Windows issue with the H.264 Codec rendering. I am trying a few different things and I re-rendered this video using the H.265 Codec and it was much better. I’m going to try a few other things and then we will see maybe what kind of quality these cameras are capable of. Also I’ve been rendering at 10,000 bps and probably should have been at 50,000. So user error/video learning curve. That being said, the K3 Mark III uses a crop on the sensor so in the end it’s smaller than m43… I personally wouldn’t use it above 1600 iso. Factor in the 4gb/7 minute 4K limit and it just has too many restrictions.
