You’re being a little hasty, I think.
RICOH cameras are mirrorless… why would they make Pentax mirrorless then? To compete with themselves???
I would like to hear your review on flying cars.
Does a Leica M 10 make any sense to you ? PENTAX has an excellent OVF , none of the cameras you mention has an OVF , so no contest ! Nikon D5 , Canon 1D series do not have tilty/ slippy rear screens , but the K1 .2 does, but is now in need of an update . Ultimately a future new K1.3 will possibly cost around £2500 on release, and at that time the K 3.3 will probably be around £1400/ £1500. Two unique DSLRs – equilibrium restored
€2000 is nonsense, €1600 might be interesting.
i think Pentax will remain in the market as dslr camera in our days, only for people who still like pentaprisma and not EVF.PENTAX will have their own fans, like LEICA has their fans with M rangefinders and not autofocus.Pentax means Pentaprisma, and it is dificcult to leave from this name!
the pentax monitor has a screen that is wide angle viewing capable far better that any Fuji.
Who is this old fart? has no clue about the photography market at the moment.
The pentax has a lot more features that you skip over. 5.5 stop ibis, pixel shift resolution please actually read the specs
I’ve used a K 3 original a one K 3 II, with those I’ve made concert photography indoors with the worst light possible, no problem. I even used them for Landscapes and two weddings. With the k 3 II I’ve introduced myself and started my Portfolio into Portrait Photography, and I’ve never had problems with a fix screen. Pentax build quality is superior to others. About prices: If I remember correctly, Nikon d500 and Fuji x-pro 3, at launch, where priced quite similar. I don not see any reason to make such a fuss for the starting price of the K3 III. For the weight, oh well, some Photographers prefer convenience, lightweight, small cameras, others rather have some weight in the hand, good ergonomics, a combo camera body+lens back-heavy instead of that awful front-heavyness that some small and light camera bodies fall when paired with some tele or some f. 1.4 lenses.
Yeah, I have few DA Limited lenses, one DA* and few normal DA lenses. No FF lens from Pentax. Please, tell me how a) getting K-2 Mk II or b) switching system will be cheaper then getting K-3 Mk III? I would still need to replace ALL my lenses and I suppose “art” level lenses for Fuji or Sony or even Pentax FF are not very cheap. From my perspective getting K-3 Mk III is the best and cheapest way to fully utilise my lens collection. And i suppose lots of current Pentax users will see it in same way.
Sure, Pentax may have troubles to get new people on board with this camera, but for existing DA lens users this is best camera they can get.
I also have issue of EVF giving me headaches and eye strain, and shooting in zombie mode with viewfinder equipped FF/APS-C camera is kinda stupid.
Ummm… check the price of all NEW cameras, comparing against second hand is a joke. Most start higher and drop after time….but being so knowledgeable about photo industry you’d know that. Go buy a video camera…. I must be unusual in that I shoot photos not video with my camera. It’s a box with a button and excellent image quality. Job done…
I think these arguments pertain more to DSLR vs mirrorless…many of the points could be made about any DSLR really. Ricoh seems to be positioning the Pentax brand as offering a stills DSLR photography experience. They seem to have purposefully steered clear of the numbers game, emphasizing fuzzy features such as feel in the hand, shutter actuation, and the viewfinder. I don’t think anybody expects much in the way of video from Pentax. Of course, if you’re after a DSLR, then you won’t be looking at Sony/Fujifilm etc anyway. Perhaps the D500 would make a better comparison. The big question is, can DSLR’s attract new users to replace the older generation? Will some photographers come to DSLR’s from mirrorless as Ricoh so fervently hopes?
I feel like we may only be left with Nikon and Pentax in this space before long. Canon seems to be pouring themselves into mirrorless.
For my part, I love my K-1 and have enjoyed all previous Pentax bodies I’ve owned. I primarily shoot mirrorless because the size and weight are convenient. I rarely shoot video, so that doesn’t matter much, but my mirrorless does an excellent job on that if required. However, Were I going on a several day hike in possibly adverse conditions away from civilization, then I would take my Pentax body no questions asked.
I expect I’m a limited market, but if the market remains even in relatively small numbers, then there will still be a reason to produce the odd nice DSLR body. I’ll admit I’m a little skeptical on the future of DSLR’s, but I do hope that they hang around.
Haha, only Pentax fanboys commenting
Regarding the non existing tilt LCD, from what some Digital Preview members have clearly said, this Pentax K3III is only for birds in flight “action” so they don’t care if it doesn’t have a tilt screen. Pentax as well as Pentax shooters are indeed very odd. And yes the camera is indeed over priced. Several years ago Pentax did come up with stuff and they would give you a lot for your money compared to other camera brands, but yes I agree we are now in the year 2021. Things are very different as of today and that K3III is a $1499 camera. At $2K that’s insane in the membrane.
I like the video,i have some questions: why compare milc with dslrs?they are not the same, have a lot of advantages but if i don’t use the video features i pay for something that i don’t need(i am a sony user and i don’t use the video mode),don’t get me wrong i love the raw files from my sony but if i’ll be able to choose i don’t want to pay extra money for a features that i don’t need and the dslr can do almost all the things that a mirrorless can do.
Sir, before you criticize a camera, you should have one in hand. Please don’t make videos like this.
Pentax is 2 years behind the other competitors. I would pay $1200 for it. My Old Fuji XT3 seems to have a better AF on the paper, tilted screen and Fuji color science. Mirrorless is also the new norm. Making a DSLR these days is like creating a film camera in the time of digital SLR.
Love your reviews. Very fair. I had the K1000 which still is a great camera and still printing g from the negs.
Wanted to stay with Pentax but evolution got me to a Nikon Z7.
You have every right to criticise but its constructive!
Too late for what? It’s not too late for me. I’ve ordered one.
