I still loved the feel of the K5. It made me want to take pictures. Put an old K mount manual lens on the front and have some fun. Plus SLR’s always felt more “get on with the next shot” -ness. OK; the sensor may still be busy. But the optical viewfinder is back in business and you can see what you’re doing sooner. However . . . the damned thing was always off for repair. A main PCB causing the mad battery problem and TWO sensors because the optical stabilization system packed up – TWICE. I am sure they have probably sorted it. But it all cost as much as the original body. After 18 years of lugging Canon bodies around without a glitch; it kinda put me off. I loved the Pentax. But like all good love stories; sometimes you gotta give it up.

$1,399.00 MSRP is more in line with reality for this camera, especially when you can get a similar viewfinder experience and frame rate with the Nikon D500 (to which it will be compared). I love Pentax cameras (have quite a few) but Ricoh really need to drop that price down soon. It’s fine to come out of the gate with that price for early adopters or hardcore Pentax fans, but just like Sigma did with the Merrill, its too high priced and needs to drop. There’s only one weakness of the camera that has nothing to do with the camera itself. Get with the program Ricoh 🙂

I’ve been photographing with Pentax for years. For the last few years I have been waiting to replace my K-r and K-50. I skipped the KP due to missing GPS and not really being aimed at landscape photography.
Now after years of waiting they release a new camera without movable screen. It’s the worst joke I’ve seen lately. Somebody should tell them it’s 2021, not 2012.
Maybe the DSLR is not dead but I have the feeling Pentax is dying slowly. I don’t really see who these cameras are aimed at and I am strongly considering switching to another brand instead of investing more money into this system.
It’s hopeless that they will release an APS-C camera with moving screen in the next 5 years.

Global shutter – no rolling shutter effects, no flash sync limits

Pretty easy recipe, I guess …. Not really.
