The goofy funky music was very fitting for this video 😂. I don’t shoot video at all. If I did, I’d buy something other than a Pentax. The 1080 in the beginning looks fine though.
I think the lesson for folks like me who rarely shoot video is to seriously checkout those fancy 3 axis hand held gimbals if I want to do videos. IBIS doesn’t seem to completely correct for hand held videos and doesn’t correct for your movement while walking. I’ve watched a few YT videos where guys using 3 axis stabilizers train themselves to walk and move without bouncing. They look a little silly, but seem to get great results.
I’d love to see video from the K3iii with the DA*16-50 PLM and a gimbal. If people are using gimbals with mirrorless cameras it’s reasonable to compare on the K3iii.
It is what it is Sir , and better to have it than not at all. Great informative video for Pentaxians and camera users alike 👍 Tam.
Thank you for that video.
My second system beside Pentax is Olympus (MFT) with – of course – better shake reduction, in particular for video. But we have to keep in mind that
a) the K-3III is primarily for stills,
b) the Pentax development team therefore probably was/is more focused on the excellent stills capabilities,
c) the Pentax team probably is smaller than the one at Olympus/OMDS,
d) the Pentax team probably is not as experienced in video as the Olympus/OMDS team and
e) the bigger sensor is more difficult to handle.
Counting these points in puts (for me) the video capabilities of the K-3III in the grey zone between remarkable and impressive.
So I’m looking forward even more to purchase a K-3III around christmas.
And you are one of the culprits for that. 😉
Wish list:
1. Allow Peak Focusing when taking video;
2. Non DA* (cheaper) PLM standard lens;
3. Allow AF-C for non-PLM lens in video mode (slow and noisy, but better than none.)
Nice video. I never thought Pentax video was bad. I shot a lot of my youtube vids with various Pentax cameras. Are there better cameras out there for video, yes. But Pentax has always been very useable to me.
i am sure you have seen, or been pointed to this video already. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pp1Jrv61g5o&t=561s i am curious if you would consider replicating some pentax issues as the reviewer of mentioned video has ( overheating and more importantly purple thing) just an idea for a video 🙂
It’s not to bad to be fair, its good to have the option I say!
Its not good and for the cost, there are fat better cameras from all the other brands.Pentax is doomed!lol
Your music bed is WAY too loud. Makes it hard to concentrate on what you’re saying! But thanks for the video nonetheless. (Personally, I prefer NO music bed.)
Quick question. Can the K3 iii output “clean” video, without info overlays, to hdmi? Thanks,
Cinematographer Hat On,..
It’s good that you mention the skills limitations – too many photgraphers automatically assume that because they can take ok photos, that they will be the worlds best video shooter,.. When the two skill sets are very very different and it is very difficult to master both.
Now, if you ever redo this, add a Variable Neutral Density Filter so you can slow the shutter speed down, expose about a stop and a third down from where you had it here, plus all Pentax’s love the Muted Profile with a little post work to bring the colours up. Muted on Pentax is similar to Cinestyle on Canon.
As for the shake reduction, go handheld on a wide lens (between 12 and 40mm) doing a head and shoulders framing, and you’ll see the IBIS shine. All IBIS systems on ALL brands run in to limitations on Telephoto lenses, even those with IBIS in the lens and body in concert.
is it video autofocus? really?
