I have returned a few of those LTD lenses for severe purple fringing over the years as bad as the 77mm they loaned you has. It’s a defective lens. I wouldn’t judge anything by that lens except maybe Pentax’s QC department. It’s probably a return that turned into a loaner without fixing it. Also, the K3 III is hamstrung by what lens you put on it. I bet with the PLM 16-50 it’s a screamer. But no matter what it still doesn’t have any kind of flip screen and only 1 UHS II slot which is a poor showing on a $2k camera.
I’m right there with you, dude. I have been a Pentax user for years. I love the build quality and color rendering, but it can be so frustrating to work with. If you have the luxury of stable lighting and being able to take your time it’s great, but if you have to work quickly, with dynamic lighting situations and moving subjects it’s finicky and unforgiving. I learned that the hard way.
