My k5 was stolen years ago along with most of my gear. I still miss it dearly as I could not find another afterwards. A couple of lenses survived so I’ve always looked at Pentax to come back as I miss a lot the way it worked. Felt great in hand, low light shooting was amazing. This camera might be it.
Great review thank you for your honesty I own the Pentax k3 and your review makes me want to upgrade I know it’s not necessarily the equipment but more the photographer I can get great photos out of my camera that I own however the Pentax k3m3 has fixed it seems most of the autofocus issues that plagued earlier dslrs even the full frame suffered from shoddy audio focus engine/… However does it warrant me having to pay three times what I can buy my camera body for if you can find them? $1,800 is a pretty penny with that kind of money I could change platforms and get a nice lens or two so the question comes down to image quality is the image quality there for a sports and wildlife photographer or for doing still photography? Do Pentax lenses measure up to the other Giants in photography? That is a million dollar question or I should say the $1,800 question thanks again for the review Aloha from the Great Lakes USA
Great camera!
It just confirms my decision to leave Pentax 6 years ago. There is better and cheaper camera gear available for the price.
I’m happy Pentax is dedicated to DSLR. I think it’s great that many people like mirrorless, but its not for me. I have no interest in ever shooting video, so that facet of mirrorless vs dslr is totally meaningless to me. It feels too much like shooting on my phone, and I hate the way that feels. It kills the “experience” for me, and while it’s great to make money…. it’s about art first, and when making art, your connection to your tools matters. That’s not meant to fuel any sort of debate, I’m just really happy someone is making the tools I want to use to create art.
Perhaps Pentax will grace us with a true successor to NX1? After all, Pentax and Samsung have been in bed together and they quite enjoyed it for a while.
So would you just buy the Nikon or some other brand?
So you your saying the Pentax is a Waste of money.
Good review.
When you buy the 50mm and 100mm Pentax macros for your DA camera, you can use them on your FF Pentax at a later date because they are actually FF lenses. That will save you big dough down the road. Pentax is the best system when you factor in how little it costs – overall – to shoot the platform.
“Gimme your camera, you’re being robbed”
“It’s a pentax”
“Nevermind, you can keep it”
no tilt screen I’m out. I’ve been waiting for yrs. I love my pentax lenses especially my 60-250 and my 90mm macro . I had considered sticking with an APSC Pentax but have been looking hard at a Canon R5 since I can afford it just didn’t want to shell out lots of money on new glass. So it’s an R5 and new glass will start with 2 lenses just need to figure which. So sad to say good bye Pentax.
I’m getting awesome results using Pentax K3 and the 150-450mm. Great combination for wildlife. The weather sealing is also a great advantage.
is it possible? clean hdmi output
800 shots in the battery is AOK for me. The thought of having to go through 300 images to find the good ones – sweet jebus no. I like editing, but a card that full is horrifying. Thanks for a great review.
The camera store is a awful channel now. They censor people
I don’t know why people complain about the price. First of all it’s not a hobby camera!! Second, other camera manufacturers are far more expensive (Nikon, canon, Sony) if you want to combine body capabilities and lens quality in the same range.
Also one of the biggest plusses for me as a world travelling landscape and fine arts photographer with Pentax is the weather sealing. No other brand makes there cameras as robust!!! I’ve been in countless situations in every possible type of climate where all other photographers had to protect there cameras from the elements and I could just continue shooting and didn’t need to give a fuck about my camera. My k1 never died on me!!! And I think that really is one of the biggest points. What does an expensive gear help if you have to treat it like a raw egg. A proper tool is made to be used, and a camera is a tool that should withstand anything that the weather throws at it.
Of course Pentax cameras are not perfect cameras(in fact faaaar from it) but you just have to learn to compensate the weeknesses by the way you use it. I wish the autofocus would be better,YES. Or maybe even the film capabilities, but then again for film I would probably rather by a dedicated film camera.
How many megapixels does this camera offer?
What I don’t understand is if the “baked in noise reduction” doesn’t result in any loss of detail, why is this a problem? The only down side to noise reduction is a loss of detail and if there is no loss of detail, there is no problem so why present it like it’s a big issue? Unless it is a big issue, then I’d like to know how… 😁 (Same with the K1 Mark II by the way.)
I’ve bounced around Nikon Cannon and Pentax. I keep coming back to Pentax. I think it’s a mix between lens longevity {my old 1970s glass works on my 2020+ cameras}, and body/button comfort.
Thanks for a pretty good review.
