Why did you bleep over Chris saying “K-70” lol? #UnnecessaryCensorship
Amazes me that Pentax keeps going…..and no I’m not anti Pentax – my first SLR was the classic MX, when it was brand new. Handling has always been a key element – ‘Just Hold A Pentax’ is one of their old marketing lines….
No interest in APSC, DSLR or Pentax and still watched the whole episode!
After the Samsung NX1 didn’t crop at any resolution or FPS, I find it weird that it’s still happening in other cameras, 7 years later.
Anyone else think Pentax is the Sega of the camera world? Doing amazing things, often better than the competition, but still short enough in other areas that they don’t get the shine they deserve? If I had money to throw around I’d love to pick up one of these. But my D500 still serves it’s purpose.
Pretty fair review. I think AF will have better hit ratio with 55-300 PLM lens as it is better and faster focusing even on old entry level bodies, but overall I would be surprised if K-3/3 paired with older lens would be better then D500. Still it is better then older Pentax cameras and all in all I think that if someone wants a hiking DSLR or even hiking hi-end light camera then this should be a choice unless you are heavily invested into another system. Even above K-1 Mk II, FF is just sensor size, no really worth it unless you need specific features of FF sensor.
So, are you going to have a normal written review of it?
So some poeple are still reading this as the D500 is better than the K-3 III… but only by some of the metrics (Buffer, AF and Battery) which is fantastic, very few cameras can beat the d500 in these areas and and most of them cost much more than the K-3 III. However the K-3 III has better IQ, and onboard IS, viewfinder and a load of other features. Is it better than D500 in every way…clearly not but it definately better in some. I initially thought this camera was a bit too expensive but I’m cheap. Is it worth 2000 dollars? Is the 1D X mark III worth 6500 dollars? Who cares, the people that want to buy it will and the people that dont wont. Decent review by the way, I lived in Alberta for three years and always meant to Drumheller and never did, next time you should head even further into the badlands.
Let me as you this, bearing in mind astrophotography is the main purpose, the Pentax K1, K3 or Nikon D500 or even Canon EOS 1500D?
It is fair enough .would like to see an AF c ..comparation with some old niko cameras d7200 d7500.thanks
I’ve been shooting Olympus since the OM-2, and Pentax since the K10D. As an outdoor and wildlife system, the two camera series have a lot in common; solid, IBIS, weather sealed, etc. The K3 iii specs (2021) remind me a lot of the OM-D M1 mark ii (2016), except for ProCapture of course. So, why should an outdoor type photographer consider the K3 iii when the OM-D M1 ii is down to less than $1k? My Pentax 300mm f/4 telephoto really wants a future. Is it going to live on handcuffed to a K-to-M43 focal reducer?

D500 is about not to be a real alternative anymore in the near future, I fear. Pentax remains beeing the ‘last man standing’ in top-level APS-C DSLRs.
Do not forget what cards you use. They must write minimum 90mb/s.
Most standard cards read 90 but writes only 30 which is way to slow. Shoot 4-6fps regardless what brand of camera, it is enough for everything except things crossing finishing lines. The AF and lens will perform much better and much more in focus and better pictures to bring home.
what about canon 90D?
I’m afraid before I heard this review. I so want this to be good.
Great review,
I bought a mirrorless. Then I bought an aftermarket grip attachment so I could hold it more comfortably. Now it looks just like a DSLR, and I’m wondering what the whole point was. Lol
Who has a “pure” RAW file anymore?
I love Pentax but they are way overpriced! $1200 would be a better price point for this camera.
I won’t buy a Nikon cuz they are going out of business, same with Pentax, both dead manufacturers, vintage ones are good as classy accessory while posing a model and shooting with a Fujifilm 😋
