First!!! I’ve always wanted to say that lol
K-1 II and K-3 III look pretty identical (on my phone anyways).
A crop would further help. I cant spot any difference tbh.
Interesting. Nice test.
KP and K-3 III look much the same to me. K-1 II looks a little better. Good thing there’s exposure information so we can see that the actual ISO values are comparable across all cameras.
Straight to the point. Thank you
Nice test lee, I carnt tell to much difference on these kinds of tests, for me it’s the real world user experience that tells the story of how much improvement has been made. Looking forward to all your days out shooting, that’s what I’ll base my thoughts on.
How is 4k video autofocus, can it tracking focus in video now, is there a framing crop in 4k video compared to 1080p. Thanks
Focus tracking on Video will probably only work proper with the new updated 16-50f2.8. I really dont care but will test anyway. Delayed delivery in Europe. Hope getting it until Friday so I can test AF tracking on Photo and Video at satutday on motor cross. Will be with HD DFA 50 f1.4 and probably HD DFA 70-200 f2. 8 which are the fastes AF trackers I have. Might also bring the HD DFA 85mm f1.4. Really looking forward to see what it does against K1-ll and KP with the same lenses. 55-300 plm is a lot of interest out here but not at all in the same League. Had 2 copies both hunting as maniacs when loosing Focus not like the FF lenses they just tack back instantly. 55-300 plm is also to slow in aperture value. Cameras like K1-ll and k3lll needs the best lenses, the camera is not all. Like puttning a Fiat motor in a Ferrari and think it will win Formula 1. NO WAY.
Do you live there all the time? Wow. Privileged.
For everyone thinking that k3lll will solve all AF tracking problems is the ansver NO. The old DA lenses with SDM are way to slow, the new FF line, Zooms and Primes together with DA 11-18 and 55-300 plm will be decent. The 60-250, DA 300 etc are not much faster than Screwdrive only more quiet. 150-450 is in another leauge than DA 200,DA300, 60-250 etc both in Focusing, tracking subjects, optic quality. A lot of People not upgrading the lenses and think the camera will solve everything will be very dissapointed and probably write negativ reviews not knowing bettet. I bought all my HD DFA lenses 2016 before the K1 and it brought my K3 II at that time to a total different level, it was like getting a different Camera. The lenses is the way to build the Camera around not the other way.
Thanks for the test.
K-1mk2 is better using my ipad, K-3mkiii just above the the KP…
For true pixel peeping I would need DNG’s, since we can compare here only the internal processing of each camera. But based on SooC JPEGs I see expected result; though a bit disappointed on K3iii in pure ISO performance. Actually not on K3iii but rather on SONY sensor which is not far ahead from previous generation that is in KP/K70. BUT K3iii wins hands down in color reproduction with far the least false colours, besting KP which was until now the king in Pentax lineup. And only one I would serve SooC images to client. K3iii is one step further. Pretty much the same in noise performance, but much better in colors. K1ii is far below from both and have the worst colors, which It was expected, since it have several generations older sensor than both compared cameras.
K1 is like 75%+ false colors in black areas, where KP is at some 55% while K3iii have almost none, maybe 5%. Incredible. Raw noise performance is still the best on K1, but for event work at high ISO, K3iii is my new queen. It pushed KP down quite far. “grain” is not the problem with my K3ii or K5ii, but false colors. I hate to handle KP so much that I bought new K3ii in fall of 2019 (!), since everything but the IQ is better on it, and I hate Pentax for doing that mutant rather K3iii at that time with KP’s sensor and processing. But here we are: finally we have proper K3iii and with now even better IQ and performance.
Sorry for those who think FF can be bought for less … if you need FF and resolution, than good. K1 is still great camera with great IQ. But If you need the best IQ and color reproduction in low light than there is nothing close to K3iii. Remarkable clean colours which I saw from thumbnails already. Several F-stops better than other two.
What I dislike with K3iii from this sample: JPEG is much more sharpened on K3iii than K1ii and is still far more natural looking on KP. Noise looks like natural grain on KP, while there are more jpeg-blocks on K3iii. I wonder how that is shown on DNG’s.
High ISO shot and use DxO PureRaw to process.
I think you would see more difference on a black background
