Hmm… you can customize the Info screen directly, without going through the menus: activate it and use the exposure compensation button.

Good tutorial as usual. I have to say, I almost never see videos from you where the battery on your camera isn’t at least down to the yellow and it always makes nervous for you 😂. I think you had a video where your battery was on the brink of death and I was panicking the whole time I was watching 😂

it’s a shame that the electronic shutter is totally blocking the flash. I’m pretty sure that even with a rolling shutter sensor, the reading will be quicker than 1/200 of the synchro X.
The other issue with it is that the camera always keep the shutter mode after shutdown, it isn’t possible to remove it in the memory settings. Anyway, the memory settings are forgotten by Pentax, just one item more than on the K-5, when so much other functions could have been added.

Does Electronic Shutter work silently only in Live View? That seems to be the case with me, unless I am doing something wrong. Been following your videos and they are all helpful. Am loving my K3iii, but lots to learn, even though I have been using the K 5 for years.

Kobie. My appreciation of you and K-3 just keeps growing. It’s been 9 years since my K-3. So,I’m sure that’s why I’ve been so Goo,Goo over this incredible camera! Settings galore. I’m still learning. I do no people,never have. I use no “post processing”. I turn off every auto setting I can. Which hasn’t been easy. All manuel all the time. I’ve had a real problem with no one learning photography. It’s so easy to just push a button. Fix anything In “Post”. If you can’t take a good picture with a camera like this w/o post. Just stick with a phone. As far a silent shutter. My immediate thoughts,wow. Not spooking birds. That’s huge. Main Man Kobie.Thanks.

Hello Kobie. How is the new toy working? Photo reviewers are doing a big injustice on this camera. It deserves more attention. Imaging-resource still hasn´t published their whole review. I want to see those performance numbers. Have you found any way to improve the buffer depth? (trying a faster memory card or switching to 1.3x mode) On Nikon´s D7100/7200 models they gain 1 fps more and more frames in the buffer. I use this mode quite a lot on my D500 for birds in flight. I watched TheCameraVille APSC cameras comparisson and I find a lot of prejudices against this camera. I still think he is angry because of the price. No real life photo test, no af test… just some unreal photo editor tests rising exposure and lots of complains about everything. On my D500 I limited the buffer to 50 frames to avoid any accidental shutter press and even because I am taking photos no video. It´s a way to make my skills improve somehow too. What the heck pressing the shutter button endlessly make any sense? What I am very concerned about is to be able to have a fast recover. If you take something like 15 frames to have another ones ready instantly if needed. I shoot stuff like kingfishers, not monkeys at the zoo. I have never reached those 50 frames any time. Maybe if you are shooting a marathon and want to catch all the thosands runners is another story. But I would suggest a video camera then… 🙂 Something nobody talks about is how NOISY the SHUTTER is on the D500. That´s a real wildlife photographer penalty. I have to end many times selecting Quiet mode which is a ridiculous 3fps. I also hate to disturb wildlife. Pentax makes supersmooth and much more silent shutters. That´s probably one of the best arguments on the mirrorless world to me, but I don´t see myself looking through a digital screen. I have enough with my pc one many hours a day. 🙂 Have a nice day. Electronic Shutter is ideal on Film Sets, to take Production Stills while dialog is being recorded.
Higher Electronic Shutter Speeds should NOT be warping, that’s the whole point of the higher speeds, getting the Rolling Shutter sensor to read out faster so less moves during the shot, same as freezing the action with a flash. If you’re getting warping, especially on tripod, turn off the Sensor Shift based IBIS, so the sensor is no longer moving during the time the shot is being taken. Even handheld, in Electronic Shutter, I would be reluctant to use IBIS at high speeds.

Electronic shutter is also excellent if you want to avoid any risk of shake when taking shots on a tripod. I’ve done testing with long lenses and it’s surprising how much residual movement can still be there using the normal shutter, even on 2 second timer mode. ES avoids all of this and ensures critical sharpness.
