This was great! Btw did you turn off the high-ISO noise reduction on the Z9? It’s separate from the normal noise reduction.
Nice comparison,I have both bodies, but who shoots jpeg? I rather see RAW file comparisons.
Nice job buddy, good to be aware of DPREVIEW Studio shot comparison tool though 😁
Do you think that the 850 was messier for a couple of those zoomed in details due to shutter shake? Or even the image stabilisation in the Z9 if there was a bit of wind?
The D850 is far better: yes you have the color noise but the lines are preserved at 25600 and there is detail on the shadow. The Z9 presents a Canon block (an anachronism Canon no longer has the issue). Color noise is easy to handle we have 20 years of software to deal with it. True detail will not return to the Z9 bloshiness.
Are you using longer exposure times at low iso? The shadows and sky are so black, usually with longer exposures I see a lightening of the sky towards a blue or picking up the ambient light. When you shoot long exposure at 20-25-30 sec+ do you get the same blackness?
Thanks for the vid. ISO 6400 max on the D850, = usable in my opinion. More smoothing equals the same thing you can do in Topaz DN. Loss of detail comes with the high ISO game. Wonder how it compares to the SonyA1, & Canons, R5,R3. Just curious. You would think with all the AI going on out there these days, you could get rid of the noise & keep more of the finer detail in a photo. Can’t take it anymore, I’m going back to film.😊
Which best
At ISO 4000 the Z9 switches to a kind of second ISO. Take shot at 3200 then 4000 and then a stop above the ISO 4000 range is really clean. Anything above ISO 500 I would use ISO 4000 and adjust other settings if possible and it works wonders in video aswell. The Z9 files also cleaned up incredibly well with the video files doing some magic in resolve, I did some 25600 test just for ‘science’ and after noise reduction in resolve they looked so good and held so much detail still, pretty crazy.
Ought to be Z9 vs the D780
it’s so nice to see a reviewer based in Singapore.
I may have missed it. Did you use the same lens on both?
Very interesting and useful video. Thanks David!
Just what I was looking for!
JPG really does alter the image quite a bit, I would try it in RAW.
Best comparison video .. to the point Please keep it on …
I would be much more interested in seeing comparisons with raw files.
Z9 USE LENS IS ???
D850 USE LENS is???
your Z9/D850 USE LENS???
aperture /Shtter speed parameter setting ???
please publish the relevant parameter settings instead of only the comparison of the ISO value
both still beast cameras I have a hunched the smoothing effect is part indue on sensor phase detect point Z9 versus off sensor d850
Just set both camera to manual and use same setting so the images have same exposure.
