Great video! and really clear concepst!! Thank you!!!!
I am adding a Z50 with kit lens to my arsenal for my adventures ATV’ing and Snowmobiling in northern Ontario. I am already a Nikon user with several professional DSLR’s and a box full of glass…. but I have longed for something simple and compact, but still maintains good quality, and I see the Z50 as a great companion for my exploration in the forest. I can also pack a telephoto lens and FTZ adapter for when I need it… but I really like the idea of not having to lug all of my heavy DSLR gear with me in the future for my winter trips snowmobiling.
I’m definitely hankering after that Z50, but the truth is I don’t need it. I wouldn’t get any better photos with it than I do with my other gear, but boy there is something about it. I know some people think it’s ugly, but I like how it looks. I have the Z6 so it would be nice to use my S lenses if I got a Z50.
Truth is, though, I already have an excellent small camera that does all that I need. Gear acquisition syndrome should be treatable at hospital – not the nearest camera store! 🙂
Does this mirror less camera supports nikon DX 17 – 55mm lens and sb900 flash?
JFF: “I think it’s must be Yi’s mount, not Zed’s mount”
Should’ve made it a F mount.
Just so you know, I have gotten just over 3000 shots on a single battery charge on my Nikon Z6 on two separate occasions. Granted, it was lots and lots of bursts shooting BIF’s. But still! I have always found that DSLR battery ratings tended to be a bit over estimating. Mirrorless camera ratings tend to be way, way under estimating.
I have been a dedicated Nikon user since 1979. Owned multiple film bodies FE thru F5 and digital bodies D80 and D200. Torn about which next gen DSLR to get and then I saw the Z6 and Z7. Wow!! Decided to go with the Z50 since it is smaller and very ergonomic.
is there anyone who tested the Z50 with a Sigma 150-600 C? This is my favorite lens for birds and wildlife. I will go on a Tansania safari next year and now I think of buying a second camera to my D7200. D7500 vs Z50 and Adapter? That ist the question.
Switching to the Nikon ecosystem from Pentax, and will be doing so with the Z50. Not too worried about the glass as there is that adapter which will allow me to just use F mount glass.
Will my Nikon SB 900 speed light work fully on these new mirrorless Nikons ?
Good review. Phase detect auto focus is a must have, but what was the other, better, entry level camera referred to?
So just wondering if Nikon made the Z 50 with a F mount, that people would still complain probably even more that it isn’t a Z mount. I’ll take native glass over adapted any day and the Z lenses are better than the F mount lenses optically. They’re quieter and lighter.
Olympus has proven that you can make a mirrorless camera as tough as a DSLR, so why are other manufacturers so reluctant to do that?
EVFs are the way to go. Your optical viewfinder becomes useless when shooting video, and like Evelyn said, previewing your exposure is so handy.
Team mirrorless Z50 for me. Just like the lady said, face detect AF with full frame coverage and WYSIWYG electronic viewfinder, and with the 16-50 it’s small. I currently have a D3300 & Olympus E-M10 II and despise the 24 vs 16 mp I use the Olympus because of these very reasons & the small size.
i’ve a nikon d7100, thinking upgrading or switching to canon!
Very nice real live tests. And your funnny together and entertaining to look at. I will go for the D7500 I think….
I’m glad this video was published. I’m currently have the D7500 in my cart but holding off to decide on transitioning to #mirrorless technology. I’m looking to shoot videos in basketball gyms (indoor, poor lighting, action shots) and own several F2.8 DX AF-S lenses. While most agree that mirrorless is the way to go to shoot video, how drastic is the quality difference between these two cameras?
Great review guys +1 sub. I like the real world open minded un bias review
