Tony you missed a real opportunity when she said “something is wrong with me”!
One thing I don’t agree on. The battery. I mean just look at this pic: https://imgur.com/32eWC8L
I get that d850 doesn’t have usb charging, but it lasts like 3 times longer…
For a Pro: NIKON
For a Tech Fan: SONY
For a photography lover: FUJI
Loved the outtakes at the end. You guys are awesome! Thank you for these videos.
What about delay in the EVF? I love shooting panning shots (D850) of classic cars. I have a friend who uses a mirrorless for this, but because of the EVF and the a slight delay in rendering what it sees to the EVF, he actually has to track the subject by looking over the viewfinder once he’s locked on.
what about the ease of use and menu system?
But, Tony & Chelsea, if you can only use 1 camera for the rest of your life and had to pick one and could only chose between these two camera’s which one would it be?
Not enough Pixel in this video. Also, what about Canon?
I picked the Canon 6D mark ii
I became a Sony fan boy when I saw Manny Ortiz’s YouTube channel. I started with the Nikon d3300 and now I shoot portraiture with the Sony a7r3. One thing I have noticed that with shooting with some lenses, adapted or native … you always gotta make sure steady shot settings are set for the focal length you are shooting. I had an issue one time with the budget 50mm 1.8 where i came back from a shoot and a lot of my images were garbage because of shake … I forgot to set the steady shot settings to the 50mm focal length. That lens did not have stabilization hence why I had to set it up in camera. I enjoy the evf from the sony over the optical vf on the Nikon and EYE AUTO FOCUS was the seller for me.
I’m just so happy that you’re not talking about ergonomics! But yeah Sony is fighting really hard and they’re getting leaner and leaner by the month.
I can’t really comment on the 850 part cuz I don’t own one. But, I can comment on Nikon ergonomics. When the Canon Rebel came out, I was ready to buy a DSLR, but was a Nikon film shooter (N90s) and Nikon did not have an inexpensive-ish DSLR yet. Nobody knew when an equivalent Nikon would come out. I waited. Just of the fact of the two main wheels for shutter and aperture was a big selling point for me plus the method of choosing the most used functions with dedicated buttons and different methods of combining other buttons with the main wheels and other buttons that sold me. I bought the D70 when it came out. I have always felt that I do not have to remove my eye from the viewfinder to do 90+% of all my shooting.
You just got more props for going against Chelsea when you marked Sony for stabilization lol credibility before everything Tony I love it… Sorry about that experience you had Chelsea.
THANKS FOR THE GREAT VIDEO!!!!!!! LOVE YOU GUYS!!!!!
It would help to put weights on the criteria you listed. Of course, the weights will be related to what kind of photography you do.
is this green screen?? Tony and Chelsea… background and audio doesn’t seem to match!
And here I am shooting the D7000…..
Sold my D810 last year all of my lenses and all of my Nikon gear to get the A7Riii. I was a Nikon fanboi but realized for what I did that the Sony was a better choice. Ive had it now for over 8 months. I have a few GM lenses but still havent been able to get the full kit. @chelsea – Adapted lenses are terrible (right now) on the sony mount. Only real way to be sure you will get the best performance with native (or 3rd party native) lenses. Thanks for confirming my choice.
What about Pentax K1 II ?
I think really a comparison like this doesn’t quite work. With most of the advantages of the Sony, you were saying they were very close but then when you talked about the Nikon advantages they are much wider, generally.
Personally I would never go with the Sony because I am one of those people who’s fingers end up touching both the camera and lens, which is annoying.
Also Nikon colour’s is still much better than Sony, which wasn’t mentioned (though I do acknowledge that Sony’s colours have improved).
One other thing, I wasn’t sure was made clear, was low light AF. As far as I am aware, Nikon’s low light AF is better than Sony’s, yet you both said you would go with the Sony (though that seemed to be more to do with the EVF)?
To show that I am not massively biased (I probably am), the Sony I would probably give a bigger win for video. Image quality is good but the AF for the Nikon isn’t great and also it doesn’t offer a proper log profile, which whilst not useful to everyone, it is very useful to some.
