Good video, thank you since I’m in the market for a new camera. Currently with a Nikon crop sensor so the logical next step seems to be the D850
Hey Tony, what focus mode do you use with eye af on the Sony? I find the accuracy drastically better in AF-C mode. Usually I get a hit rate around 85%
Hi, thank you guys for your review, I have being using Nikon gear since I began with Photography 25 years a go, and now im going to move to SONY for only one reason, and it is the capability of the A7 series to allow me to use any vintage lens I could imagine! The posibilities of using any lens type for the SONY mirrorless are infinite, and I dont mind at all shutting with manual Focus lenses, besides, Im a director of Photography for music videoclips and motion picture movies, and the video capabilities of SONY are way more helpfull than Nikon. Also SONY is more friendly when focusing with manual vintage lenses, but Nikon is a total nigthmare even using their own vintage Nikkor lenses in modern digital bodies, always have problems with front and back focusing and it can be a real pain in the neck, however, SONY make things way easier for vintage lenses use and manipulation.
Sony Northrup!
Size and weight for travel is a big deal. I fly a lot for photoshoots for clients. I carry 2 full frame bodies and 5/6 lenses with me as well as extra batteries and other accessories. When I shot Canon my carry on backpack was alway a big hassle. Many times I had to go to great lengths to persuade the airline to let me keep it on board. And it was always a worry. Since I changed over to Sony (a7rIII and a7rII) I can now fit the whole kit into the Think Tank Airport Essentials backpack. It’s so small and light I don’t think they even noticed at check in that I have a backpack on. (Once or twice on holidays my wife thought I had forgotten it in a restaurant as she couldn’t see it when facing her either.) It’s a big deal to me travelling with so much gear and never worrying they’re going to force me to check my gear in.
As far as stabilization, Chelsea – when was the last time you shot your Nikon with a Sony lens on it? So it’s not far to say the Nikon wins when your shooting it with Nikon lenses, right?
After 40 years of Nikon and Canon pro gear. I switched to Sony mirrorless and have never looked back. I have Sony A7RIII, A7III and A6500 with mix of Sony and Sigma glass. I don’t miss anything about my old DSLRs or newer DSLRs like the D850. I love the distinct advantages of my mirrorless cameras every single time I use them. Cheers and thanks for the video Chelsea and Tony.
I think I just need to put myself in the financial position to own both and use the right tool for the job. 😂
T&C good video…what about ease of use..which is more fun to use….are the Sony menus as bad as “they” say…..?
Canon didn’t make the list 🙁
Tony wins! haha
Seriously I’m with Chelsea on battery life. Sure Sony catches up by allowing USB charging, but then that’s an extra step to do that you won’t need on Nikon (though Sony had make up for that by scoring on having the power-hungry EVF).
Another item is portability. An extra pound is an extra pound esp when you’re travelling. This goes to Sony.
My respect for Nikon on having time lapse feature.
There would be “something missing” because we just counted features but forget to give values to each of those features. There come the personal subjectivity and particularity for one’s intended use and habits.
should give battery point to nikon. because sony doesnt give a damn $3 external battery charger in box(a7iii). and charging on board with usb with no usb surge protection is crazy. the onboard usb is directly soldered on the $3000 camera motherboard. and it doesnt charge as fast as a external charger (even $300 nikon bodies come bundled with a external charger)
my friend’s a6500 board fried while charging from usb , for no apparent reason. sony is denying warranty
LMBO at the way their talking to each other during this review yeah it’s for sure their in Love. Loved it sounded like me and my wife lol.
