Great review and thank you for answering the questions re. AF-D lenses and eye af etc.
Looks like this will be my next camera – thanks!
Thanks for the video. Very very very well narrated which made me become a subscriber. I’m definitely a f Mount person, however I love all new devices. As a non-pro I just can’t figure out how to profit from the cost of mirrorless cameras and lenses.
I think the d800 and the d850 are truly the best cameras for the money. Only down side is in very low light.
Nobody want this anymore. You and all that will bother to read this wants the Canon R5 – the end game camera. Nikon /Sony rest in peace
It is a good camera for professional fullframe stills only shooters who have a bag full with dslr lenses. Would have been a nice enthousiasts camera if the price was in the order of 1k but it is not unfortunetly.
I will buy the d780 because I own almost the full legacy of Zeiss Distagon lenses. For instance the Distagon 35 mm didnt work at all with the Z6 and the FTZ Adapter, the camera was unable to make photos ! Also for me the Z6 was way too laggy, as I do a lot action shots. Also when I am traveling , I sometimes needed maybe 2 batterys in one week. The only downside is the missing image stabilization, and the weight. Also the Z6 ist not a good balanced camera in my hand. The d750 served me from desert to iceland under any condition, never making any trouble.
From what I can understand is dedicating yourself to a whole camera system will result something liike this. It is cool that you can use with newer tech but you yearn for newest hottest camera systems.
Even though this meets all expectations for anyone who want a professional DSLR with professional results, it may not fullfil your gear acqusition syndrome.
I love DSLR cameras. I am confused about choosing my next camera (Nikon D3500 owner): I don’t know if I should upgrade to full frame buying D780 or remaining in APCS buying Nikon D500. The reason is my camera has only 11 focus points, something that limits me on focusing an composing. And D3500 is not too ergonomic as camera.
Haha, still using my D700 and D3X here. For years and years. If it’s only for digital image, I will be still using my DSLR. Unless, if I shoot video.
Too many words, precision is Missing.. change focus to writing a novel..
not reviewing gadgets like this which requires technological evaluation & bullet point explanations
*Not extremely successful products like Nikon Cameras…*
I am looking for a great portrait camera and have used the Nikon D610 but would like to upgrade to a Nikon because I have a few Nikon lens already 50 mm, 28 – 105, and a Sigma 18 – 35mm. The D610 I will have to return to my old job that I am retiring from i a month. I purchased the lens to make my event shooting job easier so I will have a few nice lens but no camera. I will also be using it for video. Would you suggest Mirror-less Z Camera and adapt the lens with 1 basic Z lens or buy the D780?
The 780 might be good for someone who wants to experiment with the live view abilities, but I don’t really see much here that’s impressively better than the D750 (aside from maybe better lower light capabilities, possibly better AF, but the D750 is no slouch). If you want/need a vertical/battery grip, the D780 will not accept one.
I may be tempted to buy one if my D750 breaks, but I might just get another D750. As much as I like technology, I have resisted going for the Z6 as I’d probably just shoot adapted lenses on it anyway, so no sense bothering with it. Focus peaking might be nice, but honestly it’s not worth the investment to me.
In most all ways, the D750 is good enough.
I hadn’t been fond of Nikon’s recent products, but their full frames with F-mount still fascinates me.
Yeah Dude, Just subscribed to your channel after finding it. I didn’t know where to ask this question, so I’ll ask here, dude. Bought myself a D750 for Christmas (or what you would call the ‘ancient one’), just before nikon put out the D780. I have the 50mm 1.8D and 105mm 2.5 ais lenses, looked at the G series lenses, so expensive. If I bought the 28mm 2.8D or 35mm F2D, will they give me good results or not? Look at several photography channels about nikon D lenses, all highly recommend the 35mm 1.4G or 85mm 1.4G. Because of lens F-stop or ‘bokeh. Like the DigitalRev channel, the 35mm F2D is antique. So, are D series worth it or not. Buying a 1,500 dollar lens with great ‘bokeh’ is not happening,
why do people dislike this review ? thanks for the review !!!
Good analysis, you actually explained some of the new features instead of just knocking it for being a Dslr. You hit the nail on the head about the old glass, I’m always swapping between my D600 & F100 (not an old pro, but keep finding deals on classic glass). Got me thinking about when the D600 gets a little (more)tired.
great review thanks
I really Liked your perspective while reviewing what will most likely be my next Nikon! Thank You!
I really really really really with Nikon had designed this with a vertical grip available. The battery grip almost never leaves my D750 and I love the ergonomics of the grip when I shoot in portrait orientation.
Given the DSLRs support and many powerful compelling things. I love DSLRs and Mirrorless is relatively new for me. I just bought a Sony FF Mirrorless. But I have had so many Nikons, it is crazy. None were ever Full Frame. I think the D780 is a $2000.00 swan song for DSLRs. And why not be the best Nikon has ever made. All wins here.
