Brillant — simply brillant! Lens junkies is quite a population, I believe👍
Who would buy this upgrading from a D750? A second hand D850 makes more sense if sticking with DSLR. Or keep your D750 and buy a Z6 FTZ combo
Nice simple review. I got d750 after 5 years of d7000 and it does almost everything I need. So probably I will skip d780 and will jump into nikon mirrorless when they will realise third generation and more mature camera bodies. 📸😊🙏
From the first Rectaflex from Italy, for 70++ years, the ingenious pentaprism-based SLR design has served us well, the D780 could well be one of the last of its kind. For better or worse, willingly or unwillingly, it’s time to move on.
D780 for 2K+ is a JOKE. Not when you can get the A73 for 1.8K. If you want legacy buy a used D -something. Too little way too late from Nikon. (Prediction) This camera will be heavily discounted by 4th Quarter 2020.
Excellent !!!!!!!!!!!
This was very interesting take, not as dismissive of it to start, and the live view comment really hit home as a D750 user. Thank you
Really great review, thanks for your perspective!
Nice camera. Having just last year bought a D7200 to replace/augment my D300 I don’t think I’ll be getting one soon. But it will be before I get a Z. I, like another reviewer, would pay real money for a split screen viewfinder. I’m getting on in years(first camera was a fixed 45mm rangefinder Canon) and do a fair amount of micro work. I “inherited” a PB-6 bellows when our design group moved back to Detroit. People rummaging thru cabinets found it and brought it to me. “you do pictures; this looks like camera stuff; want it?” Is the sky blue? I do work on the other scale as well. How many people out there own a Vivitar 800mm mirror lens with a filter ring made by my local machine shop to hold solar film for the eclipse? So, yeah, lens junky. Oh, and one other thing: call me stodgy but not only could Nikon actually add a split screen option; they can drop video. Haven’t used it and don’t plan to. But that’s just me.
I am not bothered about d780 I prefer the D850 for me. but with mirrorless seems good but too expensive as it is only the serious Amateurter photographer level for the Z7 I will wait until the price drops
That 70-210 series E is good. Got mine for like seven bucks. If had on my d3100 a focus peaking and EVF exposure control – would not need anything else.
is it better in low light than a D850 or a D4? Thanks
Great addition to the line up . Nikon f-mount still the most versatile camera system ever
Thanks for sharing. After 3 years shooting Nikon I’m done with them and selling my $70,000 of Nikon kit where I’ve opted to change to Sony. I just wish I’d done that 3 years ago having previously been a Canon shooter since 1983 but onwards and upwards. My advice to everyone would be to skip Nikon altogether. The future is SONY!
Fantastic – you said it so much better than I did in my review. For me, I will wait until NIkon mirrorless matures a bit. I have Sony and other than astrophotography, it crushes the black to much for me. The D800 is/was my favorite for landscape and portraiture warmth it has the D850 and 750 do not. The D850 was my bird and asto camera but this has taken the place of the D850 as well for birding. I want a larger sensor and was really blown away buy how much resolution this has…. again, replacing my D850 If this 780 has a LARGER sensor…. wow. And the video is in my opinion, better than Sony…. and that was all would use before for video….. until this one. OK, I REALLY like this camera!!
Looking to pick the DF instead of the D780, just for the looks, it matches my lens collections,LOL
D4 D800 are still relevant.
Thank you for your thoughts. Looks like this is a good camera. Nikon will be selling quite a few of these I am sure; DSLRs are alive and well and will be for many years to come as long as people buy them. It also seems to me that FF is taking much longer to replace higher end APSc offerings that the manufacturers anticipated. I am one of those people that bought into the Z system, I am very happy with the camera and the 24 – 70 f4 kit lens, but will bide my time before I expand my lens collection as they are quite expensive and I want to avoid any “costly” mistakes if you pardon the pun. Stay safe
Nikon … Wowowowowow .. Live view autofocus …!!!! that’s great feature in Nikon DSLR .. Canon had this from decades !!! , why they are realising more Mirrorless Lenses & cameras . Don’t be a another Nokia .. DSLR world is over, No more Hybrid shooters want DSLR camera now. i sold my D750 a year back. I will buy nikon, if you could release a mirrorless (APSC or FF ) with F mount glass.
The D6 should have been the F6 of the digital era. RIP D5s.
