I’m very interested in buying a D780 but am also thinking of a D500. I know that they have different qualities but wonder whether it’s wise to buy a D500 four years after launch, or was it very ahead of it’s time and still very relevant today?

Yep, SnapChick you summed me up pretty well. I recently bought a D780, but I’m primarily a slide film shooter with an F100, an FM2, and two FMs and I wanted to be able to use my old lenses. I’ve found that I have to shoot about 2/3 stop over to get proper exposure with my film cameras and the D780 appears to be the same way. The biggest thing I’ve noticed is how much heavier the D780 is compared to my film camera. I used lithium batteries in my film cameras and they’re so much lighter than the battery pack in the D780.

OK they did it. Decent Live view but too late in the field of DSLR. I know what I speak about as being a Nikon shooter for decades. But honestly, did you find it user friendly to make focus with a manual lens using the back screen? Buy a used Leica SL and any lens adapter and you focus in a gorgeous EVF holding the camera to your eyes which brings a better stability. You know that. Why are you trying to convince us of the contrary?

Love my D7200
But I feel I need an upgrade (better fps, FF sensor, Good liveview AF, Eye AF,…)
Can’t decide between the D780 or Z6ii

I’ve been using my D780 and I love it (along with my reliable D7200). It takes fabulous pictures and is very forgiving under difficult lighting. The D750 is a great value as long as they still keep making them. FREE YOUR MIND FROM THE TYRANNY OF ZOOM, AUTO FOCUS, AND PROGRAM MODE. There are a lot of great manual focus Nikon AI-s lenses available on eBay that take breathtaking shots the current offerings can’t match.

I only seen this model just before your video for the first time. Actually quite surprised! I do think I may need to look into getting one of these as the D850 is just too expensive for me. I was looking at the D750 and D810 but that’s how I noticed this camera. So this video was the first I seen so far. I do need to say, I am actually quite positively surprised with it’s capabilities so far. I will look at other video’s and reviews, but it looks like I may need to go straight to this camera and throw in some extra cash. It would seriously increase the quality of my photo’s and it will for sure be a huge upgrade from my current D5200 which I purchased due to budget reasons.

Can anyone tell me a bit about the multiple exposure on this camera??
I actually love to take creative shots and the 750 was a bit limited and you had to shoot multiples more like you were working with film. Unless you overlayed but it never looks as good (in my opinion)

Thanks. Sold my Sony A7RIII and A7III Got D780 new… Indeed while the tech race has come to diminishing returns, and in reality most of my photo and videos can be shot by smartphone, if I ever take a camera, I need one that hold, sounds, looks, feels, endures and lasts like a proper camera which inspires me to shoot.

*subbed* much love from Vancouver Canada 🍁 I’m definitely going to get this as an upgrade to my d700 because I shoot old glass and if my memory cards didn’t stop reading I probably wouldn’t upgrade I’d keep the d700 but it’s frustrating using cf cards that fail

I’m a lens junkie, and it’s the only reason I’m considering a D780. If Nikon comes out with a FTZ with a motor, I’d be on the Z5 or Z6 in a heartbeat.

I currently only own a Nikon analog 6006 camera, and so far I’ve been impressed with what you are saying about this new 780. I like the idea of being able to use my old lens’s with this camera and still having that SLR style mixed with the modern mirrorless features.
