I still use the d750 for professional wedding photography. I don’t feel its ancient. Is it old? Yes! But it does the job pretty well. I cant just throw away my 70-200 2.8, 135 f/2, 85, 50 1.4, 24-70 f/2.8, 14-24 for a z6 or z7. I would wait for the z8 and buy it with an ftz adapter.
Excellent Review !!
I shoot with a pair of D750s, a D500 and a D700 (still a great camera despite 12Mp resolution, and just fine for newspaper work). With its “best of both worlds” capabilities I wanted to get a D780 but it has no battery grip facility and no inbuilt flash (I only ever use this to trigger remote lights, but it is occasionally extremely useful) so I won’t be buying it. Nor will I go for Nikon’s mirrorless until they have two card slots because I shoot professionally and yes, I have had card failures – two in the last five years. To me, the point of mirrorless is to have a smaller system and in all honesty, by the time you add a lens to a Z6 it’s not that much smaller. So I use Fuji’s superb X-series cameras for mirrorless; OK, they’re not full frame (nor is my D500), but there are occasions when the extra depth of field is useful and they are most definitely a lot smaller, as are their lenses.
I have curiosity in photography
But i have no budget for any dslr
So suggest me or help me to buying DSLR
Please
I bought a new Nikon DSLR in December and I was torn between the D750 and the D850. The 750 met my needs but I didn’t like buying something so old. I bought the 850 and I’m happy with it but the 45 MP resolution is more of a nuisance than a benefit. If this had been out at the time I think I would have bought it. I do mostly travel, family and air shows, using a D7200 up till now. I have no interest in video. I have 6 F-mount primes and a couple of zooms and I don’t want mirrorless or Z-mount lenses, so I think your analysis is quite accurate.
Good review.
I used Nikon for years, including the D200, D700, D3s and D810. I loved them and still retain the last two models and lenses. It was time for a new camera and, with increasing age, a smaller and lighter camera was necessary. I looked at the Nikon Z series but the Sony A7R3 seemed to offer better eye focus and I bought one. I had used cameras in the past that had EVF and they were awful. The A7R3 just does not seem like an EVF, it seems natural. But I’m hanging on to my Nikons. I still love them.
This video is FULL of useless babble. It was a complete waste of time. The only successful outcome was that it annoys the viewer.
I’ve use two 750 bodies professionally since 2014 and they work just fine.
It’s for wedding photographers who want solid af and dual card slots
Good job explaining where the D780 fits in today’s world. It combines the best of Nikon DSLRs with the best of Nikon Z cameras, having both D850 features and Z6 features. It’s the first Nikon DSLR that one can use to do accurate and fast autofocus in Live View mode. It’s backside illuminated (BSI) sensor ups the image quality and noise control over the venerable D750. It has the incredible still-image and video features of the Z6, with its 273 edge-to-edge focus points in Live View. And….wait for it…it doesn’t overheat when shooting 4K UHD 4.2.2 H.264 8- or 10-bit video with N-log or HDR (HLG) to an external recorder (e.g., Atomos), or with internal video to the memory cards. It’s the best Nikon DSLR for shooting video, with its full-frame, oversampled 4K readout (no line skipping or pixel binning). The D780 is truly the best of both worlds in one camera body. A hybrid camera with advanced features. If the D750 and D850 are cult classics, the D780 deserves to be right up there with them. Did I mention that the battery lasts forever?
No grip, i’ll pass.
After careful consideration and watching multiple YouTube segments I took advantage of Nikons recent trade in offer for a new D780. I have a few f mount lenses and for my needs ( hobbyist) they are more than I’ll ever need. I do see a mirrorless camera in my future though.
Unfortunately I made this transaction in February and Covid hit in March. I live in metro NYC and have endless opportunities during normal times but between Covid and social unrest I don’t feel safe bringing expensive cameras and lenses into NYC.
I’m a lens junkie and I love my D780. I picked a good time to get back into full frame.
Saying the d750 is ancient, when it’s practically the same as this one, is a consumer oriented commentary. I’m out of this channel.
all technology advances really fast in the first stages, then they plateau and the tech don’t advance too much when it gets to a certain point. Camera tech is at that point now. Yes there’s still more capabilities coming out every year, but they’re not revolutionary like say when it went from d300 to d700 and from F4/5 to D100/ D2.
What a lot of newbs don’t know who are chasing a new camera every year, is that a full frame dslr from 10 years ago, is still relevant today and takes just a good a picture as a dslr that came out today. And that’s cuss dslr tech hasn’t changed much in past 10-12 years. It’s added things here and there but nothing that changed the whole dslr photography world.
I bet no one would be able to tell a picture taken by a d700 and a d850 side by side. No one can tell a hd 1080p video difference from a d780 to a d600. But this is good for the consumer who knows this. I will still rock a d800 or d600 and just spend money on good glass.
I experienced my first mirrorless cameras in a shop yesterday. A Z6 and an X-T4. The dynamic range of the EVF was horrible, compared with the human eye, but certainly very good for an electronic finder and certainly more than useable – I could appreciate the advantages over an OVF. For my large hands, the Z6 felt too small coming from a D7000 and not that nice to hold; albeit better than the Fuji. Then the assistant handed me a D780. Wow, the ergonomics… fitted like a glove. But no IBIS or Z mount advantages though with the D780. Hopefully the D780 price comes down.
The d780 seems like a good option for wildlife.
I use a d500 , but need another body for quick lens change, I also find myself wanting a lower noise option for larger/ closer subjects and landscapes so a full frame, lower pixel count body.
That, and it having such good live view capabilities, with focus peaking makes it a great option for underwater, in housing photography/ filming.
I reckon this is an underrated wildlife camera for low light and slower, larger subjects.
Switched to mirrorless 3 years ago but still have many Nikon lenses going back to the 70s. Watching this video brings back a lot of memory and an urge to buy one, 780 is a practical choice but that retro style Df looks closer to my first camera a Nikon F2.
She reads my mind. I don’t like that.
